Hi all,
New here. Lots of great discussions and info, cheers.
Love to get some opinions on a purchase from a private party that I am looking at making.
Mt Vernon AE insert put into service in 2011 with piping for $1800. Reasonable?
What should (or can)I do to inspect or investigate it prior to purchase?
Also, my home is 1200 sq feet and the Vernon is rated to 2900. Am I inviting disaster by installing a stove that is so big?
Thanks for any advice and feedback..

Welcome to the forum
The price I don't know how good or bad depends on your market
but at that price for a 12-year-old stove around here would sit for a while
Most older stoves sell in the 1000 to 1300 range.
Buying a stove rated bigger than the output needed is a good idea,
It is easier to turn a hot stove off or down than get more heat from a maxed-out stove
on a cols blustery winter night.

Thanks for the replay John! Well I never see used stove for sale around here so its tough question. I know new stoves w install and piping would be in 5-6K range

Can't say anything about the price but I have a 2011 AE and love it. Run about 4 tons every season and the only thing that has failed it the combustion blower (it was getting noisy) and the igniter. I take good care of it and it takes good care of me. Make sure you see it run and let it run for a while to really get up to temp. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
