Standing on the back deck the other day looking at the huge maple that has to come down due to a couple of massive limbs hanging over my neighbors garage I said....I'm gonna need a bigger saw. Wife says....Husky? I said yea...372XP ....wife says ...have fun!
And now...the big brother of my 346XP....tomorrow she will be slinging wood chips!

We had a Jotul F-3 for 2 seasons and the wife HATED it - never touched it and I'd come home to a cold house more to often than I cared to. We stopped by at the dealer to buy more Envi-8 blocks when she came upon something totally new to her... the pellet stove selections! After I asked if she would have a problem feeding the pellet hopper when I'm not home, she said that she would not have a problem....and the rest is history (and yes, the house is warm when I get home).

I'm pretty certain the 372 can take a 28 inch bar and be a happy saw,,,,,, I'd have a hard time not giving it what it deserves

If you already have the 20, I'd say, go big for the extra good-sized bar..... even though, for most wood, the 20 will probably be your go to.

That's an awesome saw, and it'd be sweet to have that big a swing with one saw,,, especially since it can do it.

If it were me, I'd buy the 28inch and 2 chains, and expect to use them for the big jobs, on a rarity sort of situation. And buy what you think you'll need / want for 20 inch chains for your every day work.... Then put any other chainsaw you have into deep storage mode, as that is what is going to happen once you let this thing loose!

pen....she'll take a 28" but I'm not sure of the trade off...or rather if I'll be losing much if any speed....but you just gave me an idea. I'm running a 16" on the Jonsered...I'll leave it alone...I'm running a 18" on the 346XP....bump that up to a 20" and slip a 28" on the 372XP as long as I don't lose anything....I see more research in the near future

I ran a 50cc 350 husqvarna for years, and did about 8-10 cord of year worth of cutting with that. Once things jumped up to close to 20 cord per year, I bought a 555 husqvarna. The comment that the shop owner (and my friend) said to me when I bought the 555 was,,,,, get that 350 set for storage, you won't use it. I loved the 350, and still do, and didn't believe him at the time....

A year after buying the 555, he's right. The only time I've run the 350 was to clear the fuel that was in it out and get it ready for slumber.

That said, my 555, is a bit lighter than the 372xp, so for everyday activities, I'm more inclined to let it fill whatever gap. For me, the only time I'll fire the 350 up again, other than just to give it exercise, is if I know I have a full day of limbing while crawling through thick woods.

From what I've experienced, Husqvarna isn't like many of the cheap brands, in that, if they say the saw will run X bar well, it really does.

From what I've read on arborsite.com they all seem to think that running skip or semi skip chains on the 28" is the best way to go. It appears that running a straight chisel can bog them down....now....how much of that bog is operator induced is anyone's guess but there is a wealth of knowledge over there....what bar are you running on the 555?

I'm running the 20 inch on the 555, but that 372xp has another 10cc on me.

Not trying to persuade you, but if it were me, I'd be going for the 28 inch bar if it came with the 20, all day long..... If I ordered it with a bar to my choosing, I'd have probably taken the conservative route and gone in the 24 range.

But since you already have the 20, I'd take the big jump and have it,,, the saw was made for it.

But, so long as you don't go crazy in buying chains, and feel things out for yourself, you can always go to a skip tooth or semi if you think it is needed without much invested.

In general, once I found a bar / chain combo I liked, I went to the aggressive side and change the chain at each fill up. It only takes about 1/2 to 2/3 of a can of beer to resharpen the chain, and I was going to drink it anyway, so I don't hesitate to rotate it out

I've run both a 24" and 28" on my 372's and both work fine. I prefer the 24 most of the time because I think it gives the saw better balance. As a testament to this unless I have big wood spotted, the 28 bar & chain stays hanging on the garage wall. Granted I do have 372 XPW's which are 75 cc versions but generally it's the same saw.

I used a skip semi-chisel chain (I think the 28 inch one I have is a Windsor chain). The 372 doesn't seem to have an issue pulling it.

You know I get a hard time from folks for having a 25 on my 066, but I really like it. You CANNOT bog this saw down with that bar. Besides, anything that I can't cut with a 25, I can't pick up anyway

Also, it appears that the new saw opted for a sex change all in a single sentence. lol

Bigger question, is the large maple on the ground? If so, how did the saw do?

Hi - I have a 6421 Makita/Dolmar and a 7900. The 7900 wears a 20" bar most of the time. It flies thew wood. When the situation calls for it. I swap to the 32" bar with Oregon Full Skip. Still walks right threw whatever I lay into. Boots and ankles disapear quickly under the incoming tide of chips. Few trees that really require the 32" bar but it is a joy for those big trees. People don't reallize a single round can weigh something like a thousand pounds. Be careful! I crib up the area where the slice will land so it doesn't come my way.

Back in the day I ran a 371XP with 24" bar, pulled it like a champ. That thing sounded like a 2 stroke racing motorcycle, stock right off the shelf. Someone decided they wanted more than I did and stole it and another saw and leaf blower out of our garage, bastages. They walked right by a $400 Shindaiwa trimmer, guess they had never heard of them.

The Bible say to "not covet!" I'm really struggling here . I have a 346xp and have been looking at the 372xp. Put a Stihl yellow chain on that saw....it's an amazing combination!

I agree. It really is amazing that people don't realize you cut a 30 + inch diameter hunk of wood 20+ inches long that it is seriously heavy. Especially if you have to cut it on any kind of slope.
