I have a napoleon 1401 insert and the fans are noisy. I have lubricated, tightened and they still seem to make a bit of a racket. Is this just a characteristic of the type of fan this unit has or is there something else I could do??

Thanks!!

One of the fans on my 1402 developed a rattle after a few months of use. It kind of sounded like there were loose ball bearings in the motor. There was a screw which goes through the magnetic part of the motor that lost its nut. You wouldn't notice it missing unless you look at it from below. If I remember correctly each motor has 2 of these screws and the heads are easy to spot from above. You can tell if they're loose by pushing up on the screw from below. I wouldn't say the fans are quiet now but there is no rattling or vibration from them at all.

Do you have the squirrel-cage fans or the older bladed fans? I'm not sure when they switched, but the older 1401's had four-bladed fans that, for me, didn't last very long. I replaced those with computer fans.

I have the older 4 bladed fans. I guess the squirrel cage ones won't fit?? What size/brand computer fans did you use? Are they as powerful but more quiet??

I have the squirrel cage fans so I guess that won't work for you. I would think the squirrel cage ones would fit since it's the same stove.
