Hey all, hoping you might have some recommendations on materials and approach for me before I tackle this project. My property has this neat old boy scout A-frame on it, in good shape given the age. It's structurally sound with a decent set of shingles on it, but neglected. I'm slowly cleaning it up and bringing it back to life!
Someone half-ass installed a free standing stove and liner/cap system on it which is rusting apart, letting bats in and starting to leak as well. I'd like to replace it with reasonably good quality components, obviously in a way that keeps both the elements and critters out. I think everything's gotta go based on condition. I haven't demo'd anything yet though, as I want to assemble materials and have a plan before I do. This is where I'm looking for help.
Pics of the liner and vent. On the outside, the cap doesn't have a guard against bats/pests, so that's an issue. The liner was disconnected from the stove, so I think bats were getting in from here. Also, someone seems to have taken to using the vent for target practice, ha. It also doesn't really look like there's a flashing piece where the roof penetration is - just a bunch of sealant. From the inside, I'm not sure what the purpose of the white sheathing piece is. And obviously the steel liner itself has seen better days.

I'd love to just buy a kit with everything I need, that has decent quality and flashing components. Can anyone make any recommendation on what I should buy, based on my application and pictures? Being an A-frame, this thing has a major roof pitch on it! I see flashing pieces that slide under the shingles, but for standard roof pitches. I don't need things like that aesthetic box component for a ceiling penetration either here. Basically, I just want a quality vent that will keep pests out, a flashing piece or pieces that will seal reliably and work with my unique roof, and your standard liner. Any help would be appreciated, or recommendations for installation as well. I'm plenty experienced with general fabrication and DIY work, just not chimney installs. Thanks!
