You also need to keep in mind that with the insert you will still have your propane furnace to heat the house with if there's an issue with the stove or I'd you are away for a while. I like the idea of having a backup.
I was between a stove and a furnace but figured it would be better to keep the oil boiler.
Have you thought about a free standing stove and leaving the fireplace alone? You can locate it in a better spot and get a bigger stove. Not sure if your house has a good spot for it
