Hello. Could someone please help me identify what this is? It is mounted in the wall about 8 inches above the floor right next to my natural gas fireplace. I am suspecting it is a flue shutter or adjustment of sort. I have done some online searches and learned that my gas fireplace is equipped with a "balanced flue" system, but cannot figure out what this is on the picture. Thanks in advance for your replies and ins

yeah, that's a Dante type 'keyed' valve. Required in some jurisdictions that want a direct gas shutoff within the same room as the appliance. Also commonly used for gas log lighters or pilot-less gas logs sets (aka 'Matchlights')
