New Chaps

I have been running a saw for 50+ years. Have never had any chaps so I decided it was time to get safe.
Bought some Husky Pro Forest Wraps. 3 hrs. into the cutting it happened. Chain caught the front of my thigh. Did not catch any of the fiber so I will sew them.
Couldn't believe it, have never caught my pants before. Pretty good timing on the purchase!

Wow.....got mine a few weeks ago, and have worn them twice.....I hope I never have to test them

It appears I am not the only one that has that habit of swinging the saw to the left coming out of a cut.

Yes I do swing the saw. Makes a person wonder how many times I have come close over the years.
The embarrassing part is that I am the Safety and Regulatory Compliance Supervisor where I work.

Darn good thing that you picked up a pair before you lost credibility at work!

I just got a pair like yours except blue a few weeks ago and have already worn them. I was surprised how comfortable they are. I had more trouble with the hill spikes on my shoes not staying in place than the chaps getting in the way.
Better to get them before a problem rather than after.
People act like I'm Safety Sally when I tell them about my chaps, but I've come close a couple of times and I definitely don't need that experience in my life.

A few weeks ago I skimmed my denim jeans with the saw. Looked down at the fabric damage and immediatly cursed myself for being so careless and then realized what I wanted for Christmas!

Bought my first pair last week. Got a Stihl pair on sale. I joked with the wife that they were cheaper than the copay at the ER now.

Some would claim that when wearing chaps (or other safety gear) that the user may become complacent and less careful due to "thinking" that he is invincible. (not saying this about the OP).

Myself, I TRY to remain as safety conscious with chaps as I did before I actually bought a pair. It isn't easy though. Human nature I guess.

OP, glad that cut was on the chaps! Good purchase!

When I was about 15 years old, I was showing off cutting some brush and I swung a saw through a small pine tree and it ended up under my left knee cap. I thought I just cut my jeans and scratched myself until my shoe turned red. Lot's of stitches inside and out. Still have some issues with that knee 24 years later. Lesson learned that day and a new respect for saws. Be safe!

First time I nicked my jeans I stopped cutting and didn't pickup the chainsaw again until I bought chaps and wore them. Now I never cut without wearing chaps.

I had a pair on my Christmas list and used them for the first time last week. I never would have even considered them if not for this site. Posts like this are a perfect example why - thanks for sharing a great lesson, Osage.

I'm burning full time for the first time this year and will need my saws and my legs more than ever, this site was a great encouragement to pick up my first pair.
Its like showing up to grade school with new glasses: You know you need them, but everyone else around you seems to not have them on so you feel like the weirdo being the only one doing it. Its good to have the reminder that I'm not the one being stupid. Not the greatest analogy, but when you show up with chaps and everyone else thinks that you are a little overboard, they look at you kind of funny.

Well it's normally just me and the coyotes, and they learned a long time ago not to laugh at me.

I wear them most of the time. A guy at work ribbed me a little for wearing them. Statred the whole assless chap thing. Another coworker who used to cut trees for a living heard him and came to my defense quickly. Needless to say when I've needed tree's cut that are out of my league my coworker who was the tree cutter helps me out. He wears a well worn pair Labonville competition chaps. I wear the regular Labonville's in full wrap flavor.

Last year I purchased the Husqvarna helmet with the face shield and earmuff's. I got tired of fogged safety glasses and using the foam plugs. Helmet works good.

I suppose I look like Mr. Safety but I don't care. Some a-hole want's to make fun of me I'll tell him to drop his safety chained Poulan/Craftsman chainsaw and I'll hand him my 372 with a 28" bar and full chisel chain. Rev it up pal Nice huh? Now give it back before you hurt yourself.

To all Poulan/Craftsman owners I mean no disrespect. Just an analogy. I know full well any saw will hurt you.

Sir, that is a mean sounding saw for sure. I should have been more clear and said any Poulan made in the last 10-15 years.
