Hi everyone, I just purchased a used Harman P68. The original owner used it for one year and it sat in his basement for the past 3 years. I paid $2200 for it. It is in nearly perfect condition except for a little spotting on the nickel trim that I think i might be able to buff out. It came with the log set and the hopper extension. Looking forward to learning alot on this forum from everyone!!

Congratulations on your recent acquisition of one of the world's finest wood pellet stoves. Do yourself some favors...
1. Read the entire owners manual
2. HEAR everything that everyone tells you about what pellets to burn, but don't LISTEN to a word of it. The right pellet for you will be determined by burning different ones and choosing the ones that do best for you!
3 Keep your stove clean.
4. Do not think that your "smart stove" is so smart that you can disregard any notion for "common sense."....there is just no substitute.
5. Take that fake log set that you got and use it as a paper weight in your office. It will frustrate you more than stepping on those "cracks" in a sidewalk!
6. Read the post-it at the top of the pellet mill page for Harman stoves. It is worth Dom Deluise's weight in gold!
7. Keep your stove clean!

Best get used to the crazies on here asking for pictures and telling you to clean your stove.

Oh yeah, stove cleaning time is Sundays for a lot of folks (seems they can only remember if it is associated with football).

So tomorrow clean that stove ya hear!

Expanding on the "clean your stove" mentioned a couple times above, used stoves are notorious for being very dirty inside....one of the main reasons owners sell them. They really didn't know that deep cleaning was needed, and when they started to not like how the stove was running, sell it.

I suggest taking the stove outdoors, take it COMPLETELY apart, blow compressed air through every possible nook & cranny, then reassemble w/ new gaskets on the motors, check door gaskets for proper sealing (dollar bill test), and give it a good burn for an hour or more outside.

Don't forget to get a good surge protector for it too.

Seeing how everyone else already told you to clean your stove but it's a good idea. When it comes to pellets, there's no clear answer. Some Harman owners prefer to buy higher quality, thus more expensive, pellets. Other's like myself are content buying less expensive pellets, AKA big box store, pellets. I won't buy junk, but Harman's seem to be more tolerant than other stoves. And some lucky people can buy high quality pellets at very low prices. Maybe you'll be in the last category. Anyway, pics or it didn't happen.

Oh yeah, we like BEER too!

Since cleaning, surge protection and pics have already been mentioned, I'll add smoke & CO detectors and install an OAK (outside air kit).

I figured it out!! Thanks for the suggestions! Here's my stove. It's not hooked up yet. The heating season is pretty much over here this year. I burned coal for the last 7 years and wanted to switch over to something cleaner.

How big of an area were you heating with the coal stove? Is the P-68 replacing it? Or gonna help it out?

Looks like its in an in-insulated basement? Concrete will soak up lots of heat (30% give or take).

Beautiful stove.. Should treat you well for years to come.

I was heating roughly a 1500 sq ft ranch home (including the basement). Only one third of the basement is unfinished (the third where the coal stove was). I'm going to finish the area where the pellet stove is so that will be insulated also. I have propane forced hot air furnace as my main source of heat. This only ran when the coal stove couldn't handle it. The coal was too dirty to have it in a finished living space.

I read ahead and I will definitely be installing an OAK. ... I do have a question about pellets....... but I'll wait on that one!

Ed, you got a Harman they're not pellet picky eat anything you put in the hopper, and squeeze out every btu possible biggest difference will be how much ash different brands produce.More ash = cleaning more often. I see you are located a bit west of me on rt. 80 several brands available to us . Feel free to PM me with any ?? you may have , congrats on the stove and Happy Burning
