New Harman Accentra

Hi I'm a new member getting started in pellet burning. I just could not pay the oil prices anymore, and hoping that this will help cut my cost over a few years. I know that you guys like pic so i thought that i would share my new insert that was installed last week. Thanks for all your help deciding what to buy for a insert and my first ton of pellets GT's $197. I have two different tons being delivered next week, i didnt want to burn all the same kind, just going to see what burns the best. I know the major key to burning is keeping a clean stove, any other tips that you all might have? just to get me started. I'm looking forward to the winter and can not wait to start burning

We just bought a house that came with a Harman Accentra and am loving all the tips I am getting here. Still, many questions to find answers for though.
We started burning last week, am curious to see what we will go through this year as I have only ever had a wood fireplace.
Currently, we have only bought pellets by the bag at the local hardware store (no HD within an hours drive) for under $5/bag. In September we will be getting 3 tons delivered to the door for $170/ton.

Welcome,Brian!! what brand of pellets are you getting for 170 a ton?? Thats a great deal for what are probably some type of softwood,softwood blend pellet.....We like pics here so put some up when you can

It is pine and spruce. Grown and manufactured right here, in town.

Thats a good point, that i did not even think of, my $2500 TV has a surge surpressor but not my new stove. I will be getting on that tomorrow. Thank you for the tip, and the looks good.

Welcome, I too just got a new Harman Accentra that I won in Harman's contest in January. I have had a Quad Mt. Vernon for awhile. You will enjoy the stove and it will probably become somewhat of a hobby for you. I know I enjoy being here learning things and helping people as well as cleaning and maintaining my stoves. keep it clean and it will keep you happy.

Welcome Alex. I think pellet burning is a "learn as you go" deal but you have found the right place to get almost any question you might have awnsered.

I have the same stove, and I love it. It can burn anything well.

However, I've found that sticking to high quality pellets is better. Many people on this forum burn "shoulder" pellets - lower quality early/late in the burn season and high quality in the coldest parts.

But, high quality pellets burn more efficient, produce much less ash, and keep your stove cleaner longer (which translates to a more efficient burn) - so I don't think you end up saving any money going to a cheaper pellet.

Also, in my Accentra, I've found that the softwoods burn best - La Crete's, Oakanigans, etc. I get much more heat out of them, they burn cleaner with no clinkers.

And another tip - Accentra has two burn options room temp and stove temp. I use my Accentra to heat 90% of my 2400 sq ft house - I keep the stove on stove temp, which i find much more efficient and comfortable. I've found room temp spends too much time ramping up and down (getting to desired temp) and that the temperature then fluctuates in the house dramatically, especially in the rooms further away from the stove.

Thanks for the advice! Ill keep all that in mind, we have a small 1600sq ft colonial, i really feel that this thing will be able to take care of the whole house no problem. I already called the oil company and told them to stove it, ha.
