So the new hearth building begins! Moving the stove from a basement install to up in the living area. Planning on going with 3 sheets of Durock next gen then tile. Should give me more than the 1 R rating it requires. here's the starting pic, more to follow as we go.

Well done. Enjoy the warmth!

I love it. Great job. Enjoy the winter!

Looks great! A nice hearth is hard to beat. Kinda like a shrine to heat!

looks good...you'll have to get a dog bed or rug or something to put next to the stove for him......

since moving the stove upstairs from the basement i can't believe the difference it has made. it's been amazingly mild most of the winter (no complaints from me on that) so its been hard to judge the difference. this last week or so winter has set in for real here. highs in the teens, a few mornings below 0::F. I knew we were not getting optimal performance by having it in the basement but its gone from religiously loading every 4-5 hours to keep the house at 70::Fish to loading it up when i get up a small load when i get home from work, and loading it again before bed. a night and day difference. And the best part is that the queen is happier since the average temp is now around 78::F
