We have a new jotul Oslo and WHY is the glass covered with black soot?????? So much that you definitely can't see the fire.
Its not supposed to be--
We have only fired it up 3 times (still doing the break in thing)--please say it will get better.

It will get better. So far you have been burning small lazy break in fires. The stove glass is cool enough for the soot to stick to it in these events. Just wash it off according to the stove's manual. When you drop the hammer on it, that stuff will burn away. If the wood is a little green it can do that but I suspect you know enough to be using dry wood because you been on the site since August according to your join date next to your post.

You are going to love that stove when you get to burn it for real.

Things will get a lot better now that you can start burning full fires. Let the stove get hot enough to get a good secondary burn going and the glass should stay clear.

Take a look at the I have sinned….. thread to see what lies ahead!

when it gets colder and you open her up and let it burn the glass will clear up for you.
