New Kodiak 1700 Install

First off thanks to everyone who posts, with out this site I never would have known about the Kodiak 1700 as an option for our small angled firebox, the price ($2000 with face plate) was far better than some of the other large stoves that would fit our firebox. My dealer was even impressed with the stove, they carry Enviro pellet stoves but have never dealt with the inserts. I ordered it and even though they said 2-3 weeks it was ready for pick up 3 days later! So I did a self install this past weekend using a 5.5" flex king liner from chimney depot. One question I have is I put stove cement where the adapter goes into the stove would you put some around where the liner goes into the adapter? It goes in at a slight angle, I tried to get it bent to go in perfectly straight but could not get it but it is seated as far down as it would go. I included a pic of the finished product as well as the basic block off plate and the liner and adapter, I did insulate with mineral wool behind the block off plate. Any feedback on my install job would be great!

Nicely done! Re: your question about the furnace cement - I always err on the side of caution and seal up any connections inside the house with the furnace cement just to be safe. I'm certainly not an expert, so that's just my preference.

Furnace cement is fine at the flue collar, that's the only location it's needed. What product was used for this installation?

Ha! I can't wait to run a test fire in it hopefully this weekend, I want to do it during daylight so I can inspect inside and out. I am new to wood burning so I'm being overly cautious as I go into this new venture. I'll put the cement on the pipe connection tomorrow night I thought it would be a safer bet to put some there too

For the cement I used red devil furnace cement it comes in a tube like caulk so it's easy to apply and it's rated to 2000 degrees

Red Devil 121? I have seen it in black, but not in light grey. Should be good to go. No need to goober the liner/adapter connection that I can see. Well done! Thanks for posting. Let us know how it goes throughout the season.

It's listed as tan color on the tube, figured it was safe being rated to 2000 degrees

Your gunna love that stove! I've already had a few chilly enough nights upstate NY. was able to get my Kodiak 1700 cranking and boiled water in my tea kettle while percolating coffee all on the top ledge.... Oh and it heats like a mofo!

I'm dying to try it but it's going to be mid 70's here in WI I guess after last winter I shouldn't be in too big of a hurry for cold!

For anyone who has a kodiak where is the best place to put a stove thermometer?

Make sure you get one that says "stove TOP" thermometer. I made the silly mistake of just getting a wood stove thermometer and I ended up giving it to my in laws to put it on there wood stove stove pipe. As for my Kodiak, I'm guessing you'd get the most accurate reading right in the middle of the top ledge where it's widest. But often i put it slightly off to the side of my enviro fan which generally sits dead center

Ok so even though it's 68 out I had to try out my new insert here is the first fire! I got the patio door open in the stove room so I can watch it cause it's throwing some serious heat can't wait for it to get cold(can't believe I said that)
