What a great forum. I just purchased a Papa Bear can anyone tell me a little about it?

We would need to see the stove. We can only comment on the door.

The doors were forged at a foundry for Fisher and shipped to fabricators. Markings on doors are casting marks for the door only. They don’t date the stove, and that door was used for Mama and Papa Bears. So I have no idea what stove you have.

I can tell you by the flat top door it is before 1980. It is mid 70’s with the 4 fin draft caps. The draft caps had 5 fins by late 70’s.

Normally those older draft caps would be paired with a short handle and stainless spring. Then the handles were made longer, and finally bent facing forward like yours. So they must have had old stock intake dampers to use in late the late 70's. Stoves transitioned over the years, this one having early dampers and a later handle that was used from 78 up. Normally with that handle and spring you would see the later 5 fin dampers. They had to use up old stock as they went, so probably had an over abundance of the older dampers.
