The reason I ask is that I've never had them on my computers, printers, or other electronics at the shop. Never had an issue.

Feeling the Heat
I use one that we picked up at a big box store, 15 dollar range. Almost every pellet stove manual suggests using one except the Quadrafire Santa Fe I just picked up it says to plug it into an ordinary 3 prong outlet, We put a surge protector on it anyway.
The St Croix had a bad circuit board in it when we purchased it Don't know if a surge protector would have saved it or not.

Well, if better safe than sorry, I think I'll get one installed on my whole panel. Looking around the shop I have a lot of equipment being controlled by circuitry.
