I have burned wood in an old Efel Montana stove (top loader) for a number of years, but am looking to replace it with a stove that keeps the glass cleaner, is more efficient, will hold a fire longer, and that has lower emissions. The heat output of the Efel has been adequate, our house in SW Ohio is 1700 square feet; we burn small hot fires from mid November to April from 7am to 11pm, adding a log every 45 minutes or so. No creosote, only ash on our annual flue cleanings. We go through 2-2.5 cords/year. We have a 6" stainless steel flue liner running through a 24' tall masonry chimney.
I like the looks and size of the VC Encore and the Jotul 500 Oslo, and at this point, these are the stoves in which I am most interested.
Any suggestions as to which stove might be most appropriate (these or others?), or if replacement is even beneficial, would be appreciated. Top load vs front load vs side load is also a consideration. Thanks!
