New to pellet stoves

Good afternoon. I'm new to pellet stoves, been heating with electric for the past few years. After the financial beat down I took last winter, I'm looking to switch to something a little more cost effective. Been looking into Englander, Pleasant Hearth, and Pelpro pellet stoves.

I have a 1400 square foot single story home. It's an old farm house and for the time being its poorly insulated.

Looking for reviews on the Englander 25-PDVCH, the Pleasant Hearth PH35PS and the Pelpro PP130.

I appreciate everyone's time and I'm sure I'll have more questions as I move forward. Thanks.

For Englander products check out amfmenergy.com. Best prices out there. I'm likely getting a stove from there Monday. Price includes shipping and an OAK (outside air kit). I have not been able to see anywhere beat their price points on any model. Out of the three you mentioned I favor the Englander. Good Luck and Welcome.

Electric heat provides for excellent and thorough beat downs........ If ya let it. Where are you in OH? Have an Aunt, Uncle and cousins around there. OSU grads, go figure!

Many others will pipe in here too so hang tight. A little slow today traffic wise here from what I've seen. You will like the pellet heat much, much better. Have you checked into what pellets are available around you?

A lot of us have gotten our stoves from amfmenergy.com with great results. Make sure you install precisely as the manual states and do the maintenance as the manual states. Fwiw my 25-ep stove is great, but I clean it every day and I may upgrade next year due to the daily routine.

Convenience cost money! A lot of money. I would love another Harman but the bank account is saying NO. Cleaning is free other than a minute amount of time.

I hear you. The question I have to ask myself is, "is a couple minutes a day worth $3000?".

I've been to amfmenergy's site. Seems to be very reasonable on pricing.
From everything I've read it seems as though Englander is the way to go out of the three stoves I'm looking at.

I'm about an hour from Columbus. Go Bucks!

OK, Underoath24............ We'll get one thing straight right off the bat here. Like I had to remind my cousins. I recall the UK Wildcats (GO CATS!) taking it to the Bucks basketball team not long ago. Football doesn't count in KY for some goofy reason so no need to go there.

That's the stove direction I would head given your choices. I don't own one (yet) but have researched endlessly on the more cost effective stoves for weeks now. Most issues you will see with them and all other pellet stoves is lack of simple maintenance and regular cleaning. Not so sure about your choice in teams. LOL! I may be buying one from them tomorrow or Tues. If you have questions call Andy a amfm. Number is on website. I've talked to him a couple of times. He's very helpful. Good Luck Buckeye!

England's is easy to work on and parts are reasonably priced with multiple retailers to buy them from!
You will NOT be dissatisfied with one.

I love mine, but wish I found AMFM prior to my local purchase.

E-Z now TJ, I thought we were buddies. You did touch on a very good point in your selection process. I was about to buy an Enviro but the dealer was sub-par and I was like you about that. Glad I went the route I did. The dealer, parts availability, and tech support is crucial in the ownership of a pellet stove. So is cleaning!

Underoath24 doesn't seem to be in the market for a Harman, Quad, or other higher dollar stove anyway. Can't blame him there. I am looking at adding another and I am in the same boat with options. He has narrowed his selection down to a few and out of those he is wondering which one to go with.

So with that said, what do you all think of his three choices? Myself, Jason, and bill3rail have casted our votes. I am also highly considering a PAH from amfm. Sure I'd love another Harman or Quad but unless I go and beat up and roll Santa with the Red Cross bell jingling it ain't in the budget. Then again, I wouldn't need to worry about heat sitting in jail either.........

I take return on investment into account on any purchase like this. I also considered flexibility, ease of maintenance, good customer service and ability to get parts without having to deal with one of those stove dealers who won't give me the time of day.

That left one choice - the multi-fuel Englander CPM-10. It appears to require no more maintenance than what the Harman owners suggest is normal for them, yet I had it delivered and I installed it for half of what a Harmon costs - that's half the payback period. I may hate the idea of using oil, but I cannot ignore that oil prices are approaching parity with pellets this year. I don't know how reliable this stove will be other than the good reviews it's received. I do know I'll be able to get parts for it without much hassle. So far it's been trouble free and has proven it can heat my 1500 sq. ft ranch during this cold snap.

Pimping or comparing? Maybe owners of other brands are just trying to be helpful and feel the OP might do well to consider widening their field a bit before choosing? Just sayin......

I cast my vote for Englander brand also. It's a no brainer IMHO.

Amen Brother!! Sounds like a plan! I don't know what system you use to program this puppy but I yield to your expertise and time constraints, which I'm sure are many.

I know what budget constraints are but many, many times when I've bought cheap I've been sorry later. A stove is a purchase to last for years, maybe decades. I have a friend who bought a cheap stove and had nothing but problems. After three years of fighting with it and thereby amazingly expanding his vocabulary he bit the bullet and bought that-stove-which-shall-not-be-mentioned-here. He's now happy after having wasted lots of tome and a couple grand in total. It's also kinda off-putting to get reamed out that hard when you're only trying to help but *shrug* it's your forum. I'm new here. I'm outta this thread with apologies.

No apologies needed, especially from an F4 jock! My favorite plane from the Viet Nam days! In the case of Englander, that does not mean 'cheap' but rather inexpensive.

Well no exactly pimping my stove there but "wood makes heat" said that his englander has the same maintenance schedule as a harman leading the OP to belive it was just as easy as a harman and that's just not true.sorry for pimping my stove and the info I posted was fact.
