New wood stove

Were looking at getting a new wood stove for our new house. Our old house we had a Quad 4300 step top and it was great. But I heard some not so good thing about the new ones. Our sweep that is doing my in stall does business with Commonwealth Fireplace in Ma. They sell P E, Enerzone, Regncy and Morso. Its going in the basement just like before. So it will be a steel stove again. Its going in an unfinshed basement. I have checked the reviews and there is very little on both stoves. And next to nothing on Enerzone.
Any info would be great, good bad our otherwise.

If the basement is unfinished and uninsulated figure up to 1/3d of the heat going out the walls to heat the earth. That is 1 cord of wood lost to every 3 burned. Insulate the basement. It will be a wise investment. As for the stove Quad still makes good stoves, but your dealer carries a quality line up too. How large an area will the stove be heating? How will the heat get upstairs?

the house is a 1300' ranch and the basement is 950' the stairs and door to them will be right near the stove. there was a stove in the basement before and it would cut the heating bill by 2/3 and that was before we bought the house. There was little to no insulation in the house before and we did all new windows also.

Is that a total of 2250 sq ft? or is the basement 950 part of the 1300 sq ft? For sure a stove can heat the place. If the wood is free then the heat loss may be tolerable, but if paid for it will be costly. Regardless, a 3 cu ft stove like the big Englander or Drolet will get the job done.

the total is 2250 sq ft. Getting fire wood is not hard for me at all.

Either stove will do the job. Both will want fully seasoned wood. If oak or hickory that usually means 2 yrs after it has been split and stacked.
