North American Pellets and Big Heat Pellets

Had a chance to throw a few bags of each through my pellet monster. The TSC North Americans were very disappointing, much lower heat than other pellets although the ash was't bad. I had to turn the stove up a notch to maintain the temperature I wanted. Big Heat burned much better, hardly any ash at all and so far lives up to its name. The bags I got from TSC had some sawdust due to water getting in the bag but I sifted them and was able to use most of the pellets. Pellet consumption seems to be slower with these pellets versus others I have tried yet provide plenty of heat. Now on to Country Boy White Lightning. Admit it, the name alone makes it worth trying them.

Some clown on CL Boston is selling North Americans for $10 a bag. At first I thought it was outrageous but the seller has dropped his price from $12 and in the latest ad includes that the pellets are in very strong packaging for dry reliable storage. Ok, they are well worth the money just for the bags alone.

I'm burning Big Heats now, lots of ash in my burn pot but that's an Englander thing. They are the hottest pellets I've burned yet. The pellets are much smaller than the Vanderhoof's I also have. I had the same experience with NA's, not much heat at all.

I've been burning North Americans in my XXV and it's bee blowing through pellets. I've turn the feed rate down a bit, but don't think im getting these again. I've used over 1.5 tons i believe..yikes. Greeen supreems were better

I bought 10 bags of the big heats and will be going back for at least 10 more .. small pellet size reasonable ash , they told me at the TSC they are softwood but does not specify on the bag, very good heat, may be due to small pellet size.. nice that TSC keeps all pellet prices level. I also grabbed 4 bags of the generic blended pellets (made in MO) at a different TSC, glad I changed my mind about taking some NA's also, the generics are darker, very shiney and put out very good heat.

North Americans are terrible. Burned 6 bags I got from the Fulton TSC. I will never buy them again.

I had picked up 5 bags of North American as a trial while waiting for my local ACE to get more Hamers Hot Ones.

Well, they'll... burn.

But tons of ash and not all that hot. So mixed them 50/50 with Hamers to make the stove happier, and run out the trial. So much for these. Presto-Logs was dissapointing too.

I have burned about 15 bags of North Americans. As stated... they burn. Lower Heat, I would not recommend for extreme cold. Stove was having a hard time keeping up on the -0 days compared to other pellets i have burned. A lot of ash. Ash pan was 1/4 to a half full over 1 day of burning. Cleaning doesn't bother me, so i would burn them again if needed on less cold days.

I've gone thru a ton of the big heats got them cheap and my stove loves them,also had good luck with the tsc brand in the red bag they throw monster heat but do tend to leave a crusty lump after bout 12 hrs or so.
