North Central Mass without power

According to Gov. Patrick the estimated 1 million people left without power in lieu of the very powerful ice storm last night, will be lucky to see power by monday. One can only hope that those without generators at least have a faithful ole woodstove to keep them warm as temps are suppose to drop around 12 F. tonight and not rise up past mid 20's tomorrow. Here are some pics of te damage my mother in law was dealt about 25 minutes north from me.

I'm at a low elevation, but the hills around here are very pretty - the ice starts at about 600 feet of elevation and is frosting the top.
No problems here - at only about 300 feet above seal level.

But big time up north and at elevations.

Ice storms are brutal. I wish everyone well. We're staring our first major winter storm of the season in the face right now, and it promises to be memorable. This weekend should be interesting for us out here in the PNW. Stay warm & safe, everyone! Rick

My and what's her name's thoughts are with all of you folks. Between Texas and this place we have been through a bunch of ice storms and know how brutal they can be.

Agreed, I don't like ice storms at all. The last big one we had here was in 96. It sounding like a war zone all night long as limbs snapped off every few seconds. When a big limb on a doug fir snaps off at 80 feet, it sounds like rifle fire. Then as it falls it takes out the limbs below it. We still have a couple trees that are still mostly limbless on the north side. The storm only lasted a couple days before the thaw, but we were without power for almost a week and the cleanup took months. Stay safe and warm and don't stand under any big trees.

I saw on the internet that they figured about 1 million people without power,hopefully they can get it back on soon,the next night or 2 sounds like the worst for awhile.I've seen a few of these,back when I was young and foolish,I worked a few years for the Asplundh Tree Expert co,in the winter,we went where ever the action was,usually had things back to normal in a couple days.I know the last one we had in western NY though,there were some people out of power for 2 weeks,one good thing is that the damage is spread over a few states,so it isn't like one agency is trying to handle it all.

I bought my generators while living back east--went through too many ice storms in the DC area (last one I lived through many people in the Maryland burbs were without power for close to a week). Good luck. Our storm here has arrived, the snow is falling fast and furious. The worst will begin tomorrow when the daytime temps drop to 5 F and the winds pick up to a steady 35-40 mph, gusting to 100--our wind chills will be deadly. (Looks like we'll probably get a couple of feet of snow--we've already got a half a foot and it's supposed to continue through tomorrow.) I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that we don't lose power. The brutal winds will be a 2-day event. The cold will linger through most of next week. I hope everyone on both coasts (as well as those in between) keep safe and warm. This will be a weekend when it will be best to hunker down.

Good luck to you guys. Hope you survive without to many problems. Ice storms are bad and then the cold weather just compounds the problems.
