Not happy with stove chow

Anybody having problems with stove chow?? These pellets cover my glass with black soot, i tried adjusting it air supply several time with no luck. There is lots of ash with sand mixed in. The pellets are also hard to start.

Although I have not experienced that problem with mine, I would still clean my glass a few more times a week when they cost $197 a ton. A lot of us burn at lower heat settings this time of year which may be contributing to your problem. Try burning at a higher setting before you give up on them. Although they are not the best pellet ever burned I am satisfied with their performance, especially given their cost. Most pellet burners would rate them as a shoulder season pellet, saving their best for the coldest part of the season.

Try switching to another brand or 2 of pellet ..... pickup 2 bags each and run them through the unit cleaning in between so you can accurately measure the difference. Having sand in your pellet indicates a possibility that the pellet manufacturer may have a dust problem in his holding yard in which case the wind whips up and scatters dust from the dirt yard throughout the stock pile thusly ending up in the pellet. I have seen this case before. you want a pellet that leaves no sand just ash when it fully combusts

Energex excepts fiber from the open market. So there could be batch variance???? We hear some grumbles from time to time. But most have had decent luck with them. I have burned 2 tons plus and I had no issues, they seemed above average to me. But my stove handles pellets of lesser quality better than most.

Good info for some that maybe on the fence about buying them. If your stove is a bit picky? Might want to shy away??

Enviro has a high as burnpot available for some of there pellet units. About $60 and might be an option for you???

Not thrilled with the ton I have. High fines percentage and high ash. Guess I got what I paid for I am noticing more black on the glass than others I have burned so far this year. Definitely off the list for next year no matter how seductive the price is.

Stove Chow has Premier Pellet on the bags as the Manu. Premier is just another name that Energex uses to fool us.

Not sure i understand what your saying about the burn pot. Is there a trick to getting the stain off my glass. I tried windex and a sponge with the scuff pad with some luck.

Best bet for stain is a damp cloth dipped in the pellet ashes. If that doesn't work try the magic eraser. ;-)

Check out the enviro site in the parts area. They have an optional burnpot that is designed for high ash fuels for some of the stoves. Not sure about the Windsor. I'll check for you! Here you go!

The Stove Chow are bagged in PA. So no, Your green bagged Energex Canadians are different.

Some of the Natures own you see at the boxstore are bagged in Canada. They would be the same as what your burning. ;-) But some are also bagged in PA so they would be the same as the SC or American with the eagle on the bags.

If you know someone that has a woodstove instead of a pellet stove. Get the ash from their wood stove. It cleans the glass better, and faster than pellet ash..don't know why, but it does.

You are correct, Says Premier Peller Corp. product of Canada on the back of the bags. Just burned 2 and was impressed with them. I was gonna fill my stash with them, But something came up and had to spend the money saved on a car. Maybe after xmas if the price is below 200/ton? Saved 2 for a review so we can compair them to the green bags I burned couple seasons ago?

Since the OP is complaining about what could also be a bad burn, when was the last time the stove had a blowerectomy and a good torture session perhaps including the use of a leaf blower?

Nope removal, cleaning, and maintenance of the combustion and convection blowers, perhaps with gasket and or blower replacement.

The local HD just got a batch of Firesides in so i grabbed a few bags. They are burning great. I would load up as well but, short on space and money. I hope they have them come Feb.
