Oak MM Reading

I was tempted to burn this white oak last winter when it was hovering at 20% but decided to give an extra year which makes it 4 years c/s/s (came down live) and I think I made the correct decision. I've got just over a cord which will go into the mid-winter to late portion of the stack.

That will be some really nice wood come winter. Most of what I burn has been in the high teen to low 20’s area. I was given some wood of about your vintage once and the difference was very noticeable. I thought I might have had a bad gasket before I realized it was just the drier wood.

It's pretty amazing what a drop in content will do.

I’ve got 4 cords of oak seasoning right now. September will mark the start of year two. This will be my first batch of self seasoned oak and I can’t wait! I took a piece out 2 weeks ago and it rang in at 30%, maybe I will get lucky and one more year will be good enough

It should be within decent range by them, IMO.

I was hoping at three years too but it just wasn't there (I may have done a test burn on a couple of pieces). Don't be afraid to wait! Mine was split small to speed drying plus put out in my back acre where I have direct sun until about 12:30pm and the most wind.
