So finally got a break in the below zero temps so thought I would give stove another quick clean. Only second time I have used my powersmith ash vac. Stuck hose in stove and turned it on, well last time I used it it was in blower mode instead of vacuum mode and I never switched it back. I cant stress to you the size of the ash cloud I had in the house. Yes the wife was home.

Your in the city with the right name then? Ashland
So how long will it take to do that "quick clean"?

Been there done that ! What a pisser ! Now when I clean it (vacuum cleaner) outside, I always plug it in & turn it on for a second & noticed a smitchen of fine dust blow out. I have a Shop-Vac , just a 2 gal that I've been using on the stove for years & it works great

Did the exact same thing the other day with my powersmith. Was blowing out the back of stove and forgot to change it back. But it was just me and the dog at home.

Thats funny. My shop vac only sucks. Glad of that. I'm into simple...

I'm about to clean mine shortly.

Cleaning coal stove a few years ago. Old regular canister vac used for stuff like this. Hepa filter bag. Vacuuming away not realizing I never replaced the bag after I threw out the full one last time used!

Don't feel bad I just did something like that today also. Decided same think today. Let stove cool down then went to work cleaning. After 10 minutes of running I noticed the family room and kitchen looked cloudy. I blamed it on wife cleaning the stove, then realized it was me. Took vacume

apart and filter was not installed right. My bad!!

Huh. Didnt know the power smith has a blow mode. Probably a good thing

Good to know I'm not the only one to do this.

After my first major cleaning at the beginning of this season I discovered that I had not fully sat the filter bag onto it's mounting flange. Yes I said after.... Yes I spent the next couple of hours washing the floors and EVERY horizontal surface in my living room, dining room and kitchen. For about two weeks my 4 year old had a black haze on tbe bottom of his socks. He somehow found the one spot I missed when cleaning, which is what got me caught by the Misses.

Told it here before. Every year after somebody does something similar. A few years ago with the old big wood stove I went to clean it up for the upcoming season. Being smart I put the shop vac outside the deck door and attached the long hose.

I was shoulders deep in the stove cleaning away and back out to find myself in a room with zero visibility. Yanking the hose I had turned the exhaust port directly back in the door and an old chunk of coaled wood had nuked a hole in the the paper filter in the vac.

Took two weeks to clean everything. Kinda.

On a somewhat related subject (laughing at people) last week while working on the air compressor in my shop which is located right next to my pellet stove (which was running wide open) a friend of mine stopped by to shoot the breeze. He walked over to where I was and leaned on the top of the stove with a bare hand for about .25 seconds. He cursed, I laughed, and a good time was had by all.

Top of the wood stove in the shop is cast "top is hot when in operation"
