Maine
I just ordered 100 gallons of oil and the total will be $165.90. That is the cheapest I have paid in a very long time. I use oil just to heat the hot water.

I sure am glad I converted over to NG this fall (which they raised the pricing structure on one month after I did the conversion)... :rolls eyes and kicks self in azz:

I just saw a sign for a local vendor here that was advertising for $1.79 for #2 fuel oil and $2.20 for kerosene.

I knew prices had come down, but I was slightly shocked.

We used a hair over 700 gallons last year, prior to installing our stove; this year, I estimate we're on track to have burned roughly 475-500 gallons by the time heating season is over, assuming we don't get a prolonged cold snap. At an average price of $2.85 or so for this season, that means a savings of about $570, which is just about what I spent on cordwood and Envi-blocks. So, we spent the same, but the house was quite a bit warmer - usually around the low 70's, rather than the mid-60's.

Had the price of oil been higher this year, we would have made a bigger dent in making the stove 'pay for itself,' but I figure we can just get it back if and when we sell our house - not anytime soon, mind you.

Hopefully, this summer I can improve our storage infrastructure (read: build a respectable wood shed), and buy 2 or 3 cords of green wood to begin seasoning for the 2010-2011 heating season.

Hi Stevo,
If you don't mind sharing, where 'bouts in Maine did you find that price and what oil company was it.
Thanks.
