Hello
On a Saturday Night at 9;00 pm before a big Nor’easter snowstorm on SuperBowl Sunday and then single digit temps coming right after that, the old P61a Harman fired up and when it got up to 135 Deg in the exhaust the old original Dayton distribution blower gave a very load screech and siezed right up!! LOL
Hope the old original Combustion blower with the large extra cooling fan on the back last a little longer?
So I replaced with a new one and added a nice dust screen! :)
Having spare parts can be a good stove saver!

Jeez Don, glad you had a spare...I was expecting a rotten outcome when I read the title lol....as usual well done!
Looks like the original combustion blower is holding on!

Don ALWAYS has spare parts since he works on stoves ;).

What is the thing that is setting on top of the stove that hangs over the left side?

It is a convection blower that takes the heat off top and blows it upstairs. Nice unit but no longer made. :-(

Your dust screen is worthless. If you are using the foam, all it will do is restrict the air movement and clog up quickly. I tried a K&N washable filter on mine years ago (I'm a K&N dealer) and it worked for maybe 2 days and that was it. Way too much restriction.

For someone with spare parts and obviously some knowledge, your components are filthy. Take the old one apart and replace the bearings and have a spare I keep all my bearings (ball bearing dust shielded) oiled. Do that every spring with my spring teardown. over 20 years on my unit and I've never replaced a single drive motor. Actually, 22 years, I just checked the sales receipt.

The dust screen is made for the blower and is not too restrictive. The amount of dust it collects depends upon the environment and is not too bad in my basement. Therefore brushing the dust off the dust screen instead of pulling the blower out of the stove to dig out the dust is just easier for me. This stove was not mine since it was new 15 years ago, I had it for approx 5 years. Therefore 15 years seems appropriate to me for the old Dayton, but the new one if properly taken care of should last longer.
Just works well for my environment, yours may differ. :)
