We’re doing some work on the house that’s going to include improving insulation. I am considering adding an outside air kit to my Manchester 8362. The rub is that it’s going to be essentially impossible to vent it truly outside because of the how the access to the garage is placed relative to the stove. It will be very easy to vent into the garage.

With that said, the ceiling of the garage is professionally insulated and the garage is far from air tight. Has anyone else here vented into a garage before? Once we do this, it would be a pain to turn back. We’re going to be adding some stonework behind the stove and changing it in either direction after the fact will be a nightmare.

We are on a slab so a crawlspace / vent through the basement isn’t an option.

Fresh air intake supplied through an opening in your garage is probably going to fail inspection by your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), & if you have a house fire with this set up you may get your claim rejected by your homeowners insurance. There is a high potential for flammable items being stored in a garage & fumes from one of those items is NOT what you want exposed to an open flame.

Would not be to code for sure. You can't make openings from your attached garage to your house. You will see the man door having spring hinges to self close, and they have to drywall ect the garage.
