Hello all, 1st off I am new here so bear with me, sorry in advance if this has been answered or if there is another thread on it, I did try to search but came up empty. I have been trying to find out a couple things wrong with my stove, 1st is the convection fan wont turn off even when the stove is cooled off and 2nd when i unplug the stove all together and plug it back in the stove is silent for a second then starts on its own without me pushing any buttons? There are no lights blinking on my control board, other than that the stove runs fantastically. I have done some research and what I have come up with is either the pof switch or the control board, if it is the pof switch which one is it and where is it located on the stove so I can troubleshoot it, thank you for your input in advance. also not sure if it helps but i do have the s/n: WH 94-53733

I would recommend changing your low limt sensor, if it sticks in the on position the control board will think there is a fire and both combustion and convection blowers will run

Ssyko, thank you very much for the info, would you by any chance know where the switch is located? I ordered the switch and it came in today (hoping it was indeed the switch and not the board) I plan on replacing it when I get home from work, also would that cause the stove to automatically start on its own when I plug it back in? thanks again!

The pof switch should be on or very close to the combustion blower housing. Yes that swich failing in the on position is telling your control board there is a fire when you first plug it in so as a safety measure it turns on the 2 blowers

I see, I will replace the switch when I get home tonight and see what that does, thank you for the help I appreciate it very much!

So I replaced the switch, plugged it in and it still turns on by itself, as well as the fans stay running when cooled, so I am guessing I need a control board? I was hoping the switch was the culprit haha, unless you can think of something else? thanks again for your help!

When you unplug a pellet stove, and plug it back in,the combustion fan will come on,for a while. It is a safety feature. Now that you know that, describe your problem better.Oh,the blower normally would shut off after 2-15 minutes.

Not all Bob my breckwell just trips the combustion fan for a split second then is silent till turned on.

The wires that were hooked to the switch were both brown? Did you compare the 2 switches to make sure they were the same? What year is the stove?

Ssyko, yes they were both brown, the replacement switch I bought is: Breckwell C-E-090-22C they looked the same as in size, as for the year of the stove I am not 100% the s/n on the lid does start with WH-94-53733 so I am assuming 1994, I received the stove from my father and he had it for about 15-20 years

Sent you a pm

Hey guys

Going to get straight to the point, the breckwell is giving me more problems I have replaced the convection blower, combustion blower, a new control board, the high limit switch and low limit switch, I am still having the convection run automatically when I plug the stove in and also surges when on low (plug it in and starts right up into the warm up process feeding pellets all that wonderful stuff) after the on/off light stops blinking i set the feed rate to the high setting and heat rate to #2 like always, it runs for about 10-15 mins then the high limit switch clicks and the auger stops, then the fan runs cooling the stove down not turning off unless i hit the on/off button then once it is pushed the #3 light blinks at me, so the only thing i have not replaced is the auger motor and the wire harness, also could be a faulty convection fan I bought im stumped, thanks for your input

Sounds like the wiring is a bit buggered up. Have you traced the wires to the diagram in the manual?

Thanks for your reply Ssyko, Thats the next thing I am going to do I ordered a new harness just in case, also on a side note If the new control board I have installed now is made for a 1 rpm auger and the auger is a 4 rpm auger would that cause any issues?

Oh yes big time. It will over feed like no tomorrow.. that needs to be changed to a 1rpm. They used to make a retrofit kit with board harness and auger motor

Ah ok, I dont think Im having an overfeed issue so I may be good there, Im going to put the old Convection fan back in after cleaning it to see if that changes anything with the fan surge, the new fan I have in it now feels like its not blowing enough air so Im guessing thats why the switch keeps popping and shutting the stove down, but the confusing part is #3 blinking and the fan surging and staying on after it cools, no wonder my father gave it to me haha! thanks!

Josh

94 had an analog control board and the harness used a 6 pin molex connection to that board. Now did someone change the board and harness allready? because the new board uses a 10 pin connector.

Yes my father got the digital board and wire harness for it years ago

Ok thats good, so now, while you have been changing parts has the stove been plugged in? Any wires hit the stove and sparked? Any blown fuses?

I make sure its unplugged ive checked the fuse and it looks good, i did notice the 2 brown wires connected to the low limit switch are dry rotted and showing bare wire, maybe thats the problem? they were not touching eachother or any metal, i cut them and added new connectors and cut all the dry rotted wire down.

thats not dry rotted, they look burnt and half melted. and yes i think you found a problem. if a motor got hot and froze up it would cause excessive amp draw from the board and melt wires and they could have been touching at that center part. and the low limit controls the convection blower. breckwell boards are really sensitive to amp and voltage anomalies. you just may need a new board.

Ok, ive replaced the board a few months ago and i looked at pictures i took before the new board went in and notice the wires looking like that, do you think that is causing the stove issues im having now? also the convection fan wires look burnt aswell ill attach a pic for you.

the large blk wires do look like they are just dry rotted and cracked from heat and age. i would get some new 14 gauge multi strand wire in the colors of the schematic and build a new harness. if the wires you replaced ever touched together or the stove frame itself it probably took out a component on the board.

the blower in your last pic is the combustion blower

Yeah I meant combustion blower, sorry, and yes i actually have a new harness coming, hopefully once i wire it up ill be able to run the stove without issue. i hope the board is ok i just bought it. hopefully it didnt mess up with the low limit switch wires looking like that. but would that cause the surging convection fan issues its not spinning high enough and causing the high limit to pop then shuts the stove down due to it getting to hot.
