there's what daksy suggests, but also, you might have a carbon accumulation in the tube throwing the auger off kilter, or, the two bolts holding the arbor in place may have loosened....check all of the above!

It's on the right side directly under the hopper. Pull the right rear plate off the back of the stove.
You will see the auger motor and auger. The box plate is between the auger and the right hand side of the stove. Loosen the wing nut and remove the boxes side plate. Then vac out the box.

there is a "box" you can take a nut off and open
it fills with fines from the pellets

chuckpp: Is your P61 new? My new Advance's auger makes a similar noise. My dealer is going to swap mine out with a new motor even though he said it sounds pretty normal to him.

If the second motor makes as much noise as the first one then I'm going to disassemble it and add some grease inside. There's got to be a way to quiet it down.

If it is definitely the auger motor making the noise, then the advice I've seen on this board seems solid: take out the auger motor, carefully pull the cover off it and add some grease inside.

I haven't done this on mine since it's a new stove and the dealer is going to swap out my motor. But if it were a couple years old and out of warranty, I'd definitely try greasing up the auger motor before I swapped it out with a new one. Greasing it will only cost a few cents. Replacement motors run $80 to $130.

Well I cleaned out where all the small fines are and still make the squealing noise...

Maybe next I will take off the motor this weekend and check to see if it needs grease..

Any pointers on doing that?

At the front of the auger where it enters the burn pot carbon builds up that will make the auger complain also.

I just pulled mine off for the first time (have run only about 40 bags through the stove) and there was about a quarter cup of fines and also about 20 or so pellets. The pellets were in the 1/4" length area. Is this normal?

I have found pellets in my P68. However, that does seem like quite a bit of fines for 40 bags, but if you are putting pellets with a lot of fines into your hopper, I could see where you'd get that much. Given that amount, I think I'd clean out the fine area once a week.

yea, the new ultralight feed mechanism seems to let slightly larger fines accumulate there........

I have found a few short pellets in the fines box before, seems normal.

After you clean fines, and carbon from tip of auger and tube inside stove, I would go to back of stove.
Find auger motor, gently push it toward front of stove, then pull it back, and finally push it back toward front of stove. I know it's highly scientific but it has done the trick a few times for me to realign the auger withing the tube and eliminate a squeal.

You will get pellets in there if the feed mechanism is not completely empty when you take the cover off.

The first time I cleaned it there was still a small amount of pellets in the hopper, and I couldn't figure out where the shop vac kept getting the pellets from :lol:
