I'm going to add a wood stove to the basement of my house and have narrowed it down to a PE Super LE or an Alderlea T5. I would be heating around 1240sf basement and also some of the upstairs. The stove would sit right at the bottom of the stairwell . Looking for some advise on which I should buy and any issues you've had with either stove .

So the house is 2500sf? I would bump up to the summit box for sure. Then both t6 and summit are great performers so price difference would be a big consideration if you are not set on a specific aesthetic.

Is the basement insulated? If not, you may lose 30% of your heat to the ground.

They are the same firebox, so each stove would burn the same. The cast iron surround will make the T5 more convective though.

The Basement is well insulated and I also have an insert in the upstairs for the really cold days . Right Now I can get a new T5 classic for roughly the same price as a Super LE. That's the only reason I'm even considering it .

I don’t suspect that you would have any issues with either stove. Both are good stoves. The firebox has a solid record. They are easy breathers though. How tall do you think your chimney is going to be? Basement installs sometimes have issues with negative pressure.

T5 for the looks and swing out trivets.

I'd opt for the T5 in that case. It's a more flexible for cooking and the additional mass helps even out temperature swings.
