So my daughter's stove blew the fuse. I troubleshoot it down to the igniter. I disconnected the igniter and turned the stove on...igniter light came on, air pump turned on and everything else seems ok.

So daughter went to shop to buy the igniter and tech there said to change the 250$ air pump at the same time cut it would be next to go and would blow the new 140$ igniter.

Is that good advise?
Thanks.

There is a rebuild kit for the pump! Another member used an aquarium pump for a replacement when it failed for very cheap and he services and sells stoves for a living. $140 seems a bit high too.

Want to try used?, Ebay has the igniters for $30 delivered

I replaced both parts and all is working. I think the old air pump is fine. Quick Google for prices had the igniter at 240$ and pump at 330$ on multiple sites.

I'm going to test the pump and either keep it as a spare or put it on Craigs list for 150$

Last time I looked the igniter was about $80. Common item for plastic molding. Good to have heat again. Should practice manual starting:)

Pressure igniters on the 45's run around $200 to my knowledge. Bio where are you finding them for less? Or are you thinking the finned ones for the other P series? I've looked in Graingers but can't find a Tempo that matches.

I had a new one in my kit and its a Farnam heat torch, HTM050-400-120-3/8F-NF(018) and that is what I had looked up late last summer. May have been like Amazon, prices going up and down to land who knows where. Been watching prices there on a couple items and can be almost 100% swing.

Bill, how old is the stove? Just trying to get an age of when things may start to increase in failure. Probably have to look at another stoves igniter(not Harman) as it has hatched a probe and now the control board:(

Thanks Bio, found the web site, now to find a retailer. Also do you have a part number on the air pump rebuild kit, I keep getting that they don't stock them anymore. I figure the fish tank bubbler will work if I ever need another one.

The stove is 2009. I really think the air pump is good. The igniter was shorted and had melted the tube that surrounds the coils.

On its fith heating season then.

Possibly, daughter moved into the house late winter last year so we really don't know how long/much it was used. My Daughter does not run it 24/7 so it's on/off a lot.

Once one is into the main season turning the stove to manual saves on the igniter-pump system. Probably the amount you would save in pellets was lost by all the cycling of the ignition system and now the replacement of it. Learning curve. Now is she going to change her burning practice?

The shop Hestia. Got a good deal on it and now will have to pay a bit more but the company is reasonable about part prices and still in budget and it saved me about $70 over propain last month. Risk of buying used. It can burn pellets at a 1 pound per hour rate and has a huge fan to circulate. Just trying to keep the shop from freezing up with this being one of the coldest top ten Decembers. $135 for the board, 27 for the exhaust probe. If it was the Elena we would be moving to the basement till this next polar blast is over. Supposed to be below zero for five days. Next project, why the fridge is freezing up. At least have no problem keeping things cold:)

Glad to hear parts are available and they won't break the bank. Yeah, it's been nasty this year for the cold. Pleasant here yesterday and today so the dog and I got to ramble a bit more than usual. Hubby had a ductless kerosene heater in the garage last week when he was putting the cab on the Kubota and it wasn't able to keep up:(
