got my 4 ton of pellets this weekend, noticed 3 of the bags were solid in spots(feeling it when picking them up)
Supplier said that they got wet at some point, and promised he would switch them out , along with any I find during the burn season. Just wondering if anyone has seen this . Would stink to find a bunch of them,! thats the whole point of buying them now vs middle of winter

I wouldn't even take delivery. Moisture is the mortal enemy of pellets.

That is why I want to handle the loading and unloading of the pellets, it gives me the opportunity to feel for those clumps and return them right away, The retailer has always replaced them for me. 4 bags in three tons seems high, generally I have found 1 bag or 2 bags in 3 tons. I understand that not all retailers can store inside, but the factory packaging should protect them.

One thing about pellets is if they are-were wet they show by crumbling unlike corn that only someone experienced can tell before trying to burn. If you restacked everything you probably caught what was damaged.

Bioburner,

burned 2 ton last winter, looking forward to a full season this winter. Learning as I go thanks to you guys.
these few bags must have been really wet at some point , feet like one big solid mass
as you said, I restacked them , those are the only ones I found - I see the advantage of a reputable dealer as
has been stated in the forum, nice to know I can exchange them
