Hi all…

Looking at a through roof pellet stove install and looking for some guidance on whether this would be feasible.

Looking at adding a pellet stove to a breakfast nook to heat a cold back of the house. The breakfast nook is on an overhang with no basement or foundation. I’d like to draw air through the floor from under the stove, and exhaust the stove through the roof.

The breakfast nook is the little bump out near the deck. Could we vent the exhaust there? Are the windows above concern? We wouldn’t have a way to exhaust it through the second floor and would likely need to go ventless propane to supplement heat, but would really rather prefer pellet. In NH.

I know heat rises, but if you can vent it through the side of your house, this may work in my mind. Just not sure.

What does your manual say ? It should give you options and clearances from doors and windows

Yea…haven’t bought it yet. Looking at a Harman xxv.

Manual says 4’ to the side and 4’ below a window. I’m not sure if that would be for wall venting or roof as well. This would be on a lower roof line about 6’ away from the second floor windows. Not directly below or beside them….

I’ll measure, but feel like 3’ below and about 6’ in front of.

I wouldn’t draw air from underneath, you’re going to create a cold floor going that route. The dead air space has an insulation factor. You’d be better off spending the money on a direct vent like this

I would be concerned about putting a pipe up through an existing roof and keeping it from leaking. I'm sure you can get a rubber boot for it...

I don't know how this will work based on what you have inside the house, but I like it better out through the wall and then up about 6 feet... between that bump out and the other window to the left.

I would pay attention to this part of the installation manual. I did get this from the P-series manual, but imagine it would be the same.
