Hey everyone, my hampton gci60 insert is coming at end of week. I will be doing the install hopefully this weekend( with pics ). As I search this forum for what pellets work best , it becoming a little overwhelming. Is there a list on here on. I live in south eastern NH, and plan to call all local places today. What should I look for as far as premium vs standard, hardwood vs softwood, what brands do you guys like best. Thanks, I can't wait to get this thing up and running.

To save yourself some time, I would look around you and see what pellets are available right now, then do a search on the forum. Different regions have different pellets available to them. You can see from my signature what I like, but they are not easy to get. I realize you're just getting your stove, but I would shop for pellets in April or May for best prices and best selection for next season. It's just personal preference on hardwood vs softwood, no magic answer. Post back after you find out what's available to you and people will have a thing or 2 to say on which ones to go for.

As newf lover said, make a bunch of phone calls to area big box, hardware, landscape, and stove shops within 30 min of your location, and then post back with brands and per ton prices. We can at least tell you the ones we like, and maybe some to steer clear of.

Does not hurt to pick up a couple of bags of different pellets to see what burns best. You have a nice list and I see you have the Fireside Ultras? on the list. They are $209/ton here and I am burning them right now. Left the stove on low, all night ... 15 degrees outside and the house was a toasty 70 degrees when we got up. I do have a 800 sq ft "little" ranch, well insulated. Just jump right in and start burning different pellets to see what works for you. Hope you spend some time on this site as there are some very "bright bulbs" here who have taught me "TONS" over the last few years!

The Fireside Ultra's (I think that's what you meant by Fireside) are the best deal of all the ones you listed. Decent pellet, although maybe not during the real cold weather....depends on the stove.

The Cubex, Vermont, and Greene Team are the best of the rest, although I don't know what "Made in Maine" is, and have no comment on the PWI.

Green Supreme and New England are the exact same pellet, so the GS is the better deal by far, but they are just average pellets, at best.

Add PWI to the best of the rest. Good solid canadian pellet IMHO. Sister pellet to the logi e's. Nice heat and low ash. Price isn't too bad, Should do well in the cold season.

I would say the Made in Maine is Maine Woods Pellet CO. They have it printed on every bag. Whomever told him Made in Maine must be selling the Box Stove Version.

The " made in Maine" were from TSC that's what they said over phone, I assumed they were MWP

Go with the Fireside's for that price you will not be disappointed.Very good pellet.Try a few bags first then buy all you can.

I bought 5 bags last year, they were the worst pellet I burned all year.

Like someone already said, try a few bags of each first before you but a ton or two. I like to try 5 or 6 bags before I can really judge them. I bought a cheap Rutland magnetic thermometer and put it on the front of the stove just so I could compare different pellets. Right now I'm burning Maine Woods and the temps are higher than anything else that I've put in the stove. IMHO Green Team is the most over priced of anything that I have tried so far.

As always "your results may vary" so try them all.............that's half the fun!

I had to chuckle when I read your post. A lot of people will tell you MWP are junk. Yet you're saying they are the hottest pellet you've burned. Either you are burning a lot of really bad pellets or your stove really likes them. I personally have no issues with them. They work fine in my stove.

I have had real good Luck with Cubex in my XXV they seem to run lots hotter and clean up time seens to be easier than Maine Woods Pellets (softies) and produce much less ash,worth the 40 $ extra a ton for me ! ! As for others I do also like LaCreates, Oakies and have to say Trumans are hard to beat but I cannt find them around here..... sure would like to have a source !

The Vermonts are so clean, so hot, and smell good too! My thinking is why squabble over 10 or 20 dollars and get an inferior (Infernior?) pellet? I even had Home and Hearth deliver my load for an extra $20. They slid it right into my shed and all I had to do was cut the wrapping off.

Your not kidding about the ash with GT holy cow! I have switched to Stove Chow and having very good results.
