I am trying to determine if it is possible to use the same size flue and chimney for a gas burning stove as a pellet stove. We currently have a pellet stove that we would like to replace with a gas burning one. All of the gas burning stoves appear to need a larger flue. Can anyone point me in the direction of a gas burning stove that has a 3" or 4" flue?

You are probably out of luck. There are inserts that use 3” venting, but are designed to be used within the confines of a masonry chimney. There are B-Vent gas units that utilize 4” venting, but they are not compatible with your wall thimble location. Most gas units require vertical venting off the top. Most pellet stoves are vented lower, but there are exceptions. You’re probably gonna need an entire new vent configuration.

What is your current configuration? A 4" liner for a bvent stove is very inexpensive if this is installed in a masonry flu.
