pellet used update

So far this year I have used 34 bags burning from Sept to now mostly at night. wife likes the house warm and although oil is cheap she still wants the stove on. Don't get me wrong I love my stove and enjoy the heat but this week north of Boston we are going to see mid to high 50s and 40s at night. Dec has been been pretty warm thus far similar to last year. I plan on not burning any pellets for the next week and keeping the house at 68 with the base board oil heat. Oil is 1.70 a gallon and I am going to try and save some pellets weather permitting. How many bags are you guys at and also what are your plans this season as far as using oil ?

Half a ton exactly. I have natural gas. We let..the furnace take over at night and when we are away from the house for a while

Over a ton, maybe even closer to 1.5 tons. Haven't used any propane except for DHW. Delivery of 150 gallons of propane in October was $500. Can easily go thru more than that (much more) in a warm month while having the heat set at 64. Sticking with pellets and 71-72* in the house.

I'd say 20 bags of pellets, supplementing with oil. My oil was $2.05/gal, delivered last month. We like the house between 65-70 during the day, cooler at night. The few times I've run the stove all night, it gets way too warm.

I shut mine down during the night...we woke up and it was like 85....blech....too hot. I put it on this morning for a little bit to take the chill off but shut it off before I left.

I think I am going onto bag 40 since September.

I only used mine at night to take the chill out of the air and I love it... I don't miss cleaning it every night and the last oil price I got was $1.68 a gallon. Pellets I can't find under $5.98 a bag... .accept this week HD dropped their price to $5.18 a bag and I pick some up every time I'm there. I had about 4 tons from last year and at this rate I may have enough for this year, and enough to get me through most of next year.

I have used 25 bags since mid-october. Lately have only needed to run stove at night and mini-splits during day.

Last year at this time I was close to double that number.

I put in bag ten last night and ran the stove for a couple of hours and shut it off. I got up early this morning, the overnight temp went up to 50 deg as predicted. Haven't run the oil or the stove today all day, it hit 58 deg out with sun. Oil is $1.67 ( down $.12 from a week ago today) here now and pellets $5.18- $5.39 a bag and holding for not even good grade pellets . To light the stove now and then is nice for a little direct heat and ambiance though. But between these temps and those variances in prices it's not worth running in my situation. It will be nice to have running during the Christmas Holiday if it gets cold enough to use it.

3 bags, only in the P-68 in my basement rec room. (Colder below grade). Have not lit the P-52 yet this season. No sustained temps below 30, so my heat pump is doing the work. Once winter gets here I will be switching heat sources full time.

At least I'm not the only one who has gone thru what seems to others a large amount of pellets (considering the mild winter). My basement isn't as warm as yours - 73-74* while upstairs is set at 71*.

Rather support them than pay the outrageous propane prices I pay (and only heat half the house on propane)

Moderately warm weather, $2.00 oil, so I've only done a 2.5 bags to take the chill off in the evening and provide some fireside ambiance while watching Netflix and munching on popcorn. Setback thermostat for the oil furnace is set to 68F for the day and goes down to 55F between 10P to 7A. A toasty warming blanket pre-heats the bed. The oil tank gauge hasn't dropped a whole lot. January/February will likely bring about a change.

I'm still on the tenth bag I put in almost a week ago. I think I've heated two evenings with the stove since then and one of those was last night for a couple of hours. 4 hours burn time on a bag of pellets isn't a whole lot.

Its been unseasonably warm here. My plan was to use propane. I filled up at .99 a.gallon. It's probably cheaper now. That plan kind of fell apart. I guess my furnace didnt lil not being used for such a long time. The mercury switch went out and its such an old unit parts are obsolete. I jumped the switch and it started working for a while but stopped again, so I went back to corn and pellets. I'll replace that furnace soon. I would yave done I right away but i found a Enviro Omega on CL for cheap and just.couldnt pass it up. I'm planning on sticking it in the basement and running ductwork up to a few registers in this old house that arent being used for anything. I reckon ill need to upgrade to the bigger blower for that. Anyway, I've burned about 12 bags so far mixing with corn. Its 74* in here right now and I got her choked down as low as she'll go. I think its about 48* out and very windy.

Wow. 1.5 tons is half of what I'll use all season long. I've burned about 20 bags less than I did by this time last year.

11 bags since install in November. I'm being stingy with available pellets. Bring the house to temperature (69) with propane. Then turn the stove off and on t o stay warm. Turn the stove off from 2200 to 0600. So far so good.
