Pellets Burned This Year versus Last Year

I have been meaning to start this thread to get an idea what folks burned this year versus last year and how many pellets you may have left over for next year.

For me I burned almost 59% less pellets (162 - 67) / 162 this year compared to last year. Reason oil was under $1.70 per gallon.

Last year 2014-2015 - burned 162 bags / left over 6 bags
Purchased 150 bags October 2015 - total 161 bags
This year 2015-2016 - burned 67 bags / left over 94 bags
Purchased 20 bags Feb 2016
Purchased 75 bags March 2016
Remaining bags for 2016 - 2017 season - 189 bags

Still burning pellets this year for a few more days.

Take away - I will not be buying anymore pellets next year unless they are quality pellets for $175/ton

Winter of 2014-2015, I burned nearly 4 tons (I blew through 1.5 tons in February alone because of how cold it was that month). 188 bags to be exact (I heat an entire 2500 sq. ft. house with my Fahrenheit pellet furnace, but leave things off during the week days while at work). This year, I burned slightly over 2 tons (118 bags total).

I had about 1/2 ton of pellets remaining from last year, I bought 1 ton of Pro Pellets in October 2015, then another ton of Pro Pellets in January, and a 3rd ton of pellets in late Feb (North American), which I returned 36 bags because they burned terribly and caused auger jams (which I had never experienced in over 5 years of burning wood pellets). I have about 1 ton of Green Supreme, as well as some other bags of other brands, in the basement now (I picked up the Green Supreme in exchange for the lousy North American pellets), and plan on picking up another ton this upcoming Fall. I generally purchase 1 ton at a time since I can have them fork lifted into my truck at TSC, which is only 4 miles from my home. I like to have around 2 tons to start the season in the Fall, and I'll buy 1 or 2 tons during Jan-Feb depending on heating demands.

1-1/3tons will be the tally this year, more than I planned on actually. I think our oil burner needs attention , it rather gobbles fuel compared to how it used to be, using more oil in a mild winter than it did in years past on a more average winter. So we leaned on pellets more than we had planned to.

Used 4 tons last year.

I will report back in June when I stop burning pellets. It was snowing with a windchill of -17 degrees Celsius. Last year I was running the pellet stove well into July.

Two days ago my yard looked like that too, we had a couple of those little freaky April snow storms, one Sunday and one Monday, we can get those around here. 21f yesterday morning at daybreak . But today the snow is basically gone and after near 60 deg temps and rain today I'm sure it will all be gone once again. But for a couple of days there it looked like Jan out here, just the sun was in the wrong place !

I've had the batteries ready to go in the boat and garden tractor for a month now.

I bought a new stove last summer. I burned the same as last year, three tons. The Harman burns more pellets for sure. Also a learning curve for me. I was surprised I burned that many with the mild temps. I think the shoulder season killed me plus we kept the house around 70, not the 65 we had in the past.

It's surprising how quickly a ton can go especially if you like to burn at higher feed rates (which is my personal preference). Might as well crank it and let those pellets burn until the house is hotter than what can be tolerated...usually by the time the living room is roasting in the upper 70s by the evening, after 5-6 hrs of burning depending on the temp, I power down the wood pellet furnace. By the morning (on colder nights, when the lows dip below 20-25F), the house cools down to the lower 60s.

Burned 200 and still going. I like to burn and keep the house at 74 or higher. Just bought next years stash on a deal of the big box stores clearing their inventory. 11 ton of green team and dry creek , average price $173 a ton. I'll be burning just as hard at that price for next year.

Winter 2015-16- 2 bags burned, still have one bag left...Took advantage of the easy, cheap HHO option this Winter.

I've only burned a ton and a half this year. But we have had a warmer , and wetter, than normal winter.
In the past two years I burned 2 1/2 and 3 tons of pellets, in that order.

I haven't used the oil furnace less than any other year since I got the pellet stove.

13.5 ton 2014/2015 season plus 200 gallons of fuel oil. 8.5 ton 2015-2016 and 100 gallons of fuel oil. This includes hot water maker.

$2590 total spent this year, $4700 last year vs $8k the year before I purchased the pellet boiler....and much warmer too!

.5 ton left over since I am bulk delivery and am scheduled to refill my bin with green mountain softies in August. Haven't touched a bag of pellets since March 2014. Life is good!

Average year = 2 ton + a few extra bags, oil for background heat. This year 1 1/2 ton ( paid for 3 after last year ) oil ? still on background. Havnt had an auto fill since Jan. Overall a lot less.

I burned 2 tons last year and 3 tons this year. Last year wifey was too hot at 68 this year she's too cold at 75. I like the the house warmer so it fine with me.

Burned just over two ton this year last year I think I was around three and a half. Wife likes the stove on.I just filled my oil tank and it only took 130 gallons (half tAnk). Last time I filled it was about year ago. That's pretty impressive seeing we use the oil for hot water plus ran the heat exclusively for a few weeks this winter. So cost me about 800 bucks for heat and hot water for the year including pellets.that's cheap for where I live. Warm and happy is the key.

What I spent on oil is what I would have paid for two tons so I'm pretty happy with the money saved

6 tons last year (2014-2015). 4 tons this year (2015-2016). Still burning though, so could end up at 4.5 tons.

3.5 tons last winter and 3.5 so far this winter, though the cold spring has the stove still cranking at night.

Last year was the nastiest winter I've ever scene. But we all survived it. Last year I burned 4 1/2 tons along with 35 gallons of HHO. But this year is a total turn around. Only 2 tons and unknown amount of fuel because they have not been around yet to fill it.

I burned four tons last year compared to not quite three tons this year. I have two plus tons left so I only need to purchase three to be ready for next year. I'm ready for the burning season to be over so I can give the stove its spring cleaning which will include replacing the door gaskets this year.
