  A locust tree fell last week and the parts of the trump were cut into large pieces and are in our front yard/side of the road. A tree service will be removing the locust wood tomorrow afternoon/evening (June 13) - if you want the pieces, free to anyone to pick them up and haul away. 17 Oakville Drive, Pittsburgh PA 15220 (in Greentree). No need to ask beforehand.
  
  4 large cut pieces in the middle of the photo (the part to the left is the trunk/stump still attached to the ground). Pieces range in size approximately 3 to 7 feet (rough estimates).

Wow that looks dark for locust. It looks good but the fresh cut locust is usually lighter.
Isn't it close enough for you to grab?

Yea I didn't think it looked like locust either, I was just going by what the ad said. My truck is in the shop right now or else I would have scooped it up.

I brought home a bunch of black locust in the rain last fall, and when wet the color wasn't very different from this (see my avatar pic).

I'm tempted, as usual, to go over and have a look, even though I have nowhere to put more wood.

No, I don't think it's mulberry. The bark doesn't have the crosswise puckers I expect to see in mulberry.

Couldn't be osage, could it? I've never cut any, but it does grow around here.

Well, that was a heart breaker.

I went and had a look. The tree service guys had arrived early, and already hauled all the wood off to be turned into mulch. I got there as they were just finishing up with the stump grinder. All that was left of the tree was a small chunk from right at ground level, practically root ball, and a few bushels worth of deep orange chips spread across the pavement. Not yellow-green (locust). Not bright yellow (mulberry). Orange.

I got burned on some Pin Oak by the crew that came back earlier than stated. Recently I saw a crew working on some Silver Maple and stopped to ask. I was able to score a trailer load, but a lot of the wood went back to be mulched (no crotches in that stuff.)
Not sure what that wood was but you might not have lost too much. Osage would have been brighter yellow than even Mulberry....

I'll hang on to that thought. I really don't need any more wood right now, but I would've found a place for osage if that was what it was, and if it had still been there.

Yep, Hedge is neon looking. Looks like the color of a yellow highlighter. That white sap is some sticky stuff too!

Ah, I've never seen fresh-cut hedge. I have a bit in my stacks, but it had been cut a while before I got it and is quite dark.
