I started another thread about our stove not working after I cleaned it. Had nothing to do with me. There was 4 pieces of some kind of broken plastic thing that seized up the stove. Three of them fell out of the back when my husband tapped the fines box and had the slide plate out trying to determine what was wrong. Another one fed into the burn pot from the hopper, it was a smaller piece. My Husband drove the stove to the dealer because he was impatient and didn't want to pay $100 service call just for him to drive here. He is on the way back with the stove now, can't wait as it's 7 degrees. Somerset pellets, can't imagine this happening but I've heard it before. Really made for a crappy day and a half! Just glad nothing expensive was wrong.

I had been following your other thread to see what the outcome was. Glad to hear that you will be back up and running shortly!
I was too aggravated to take pictures and don't know how to post them anyways. Now that the stove is fixed I guess I have time to learn.
The plastic had to have come in the pellets from the plant. And priceless....yes! I wish you could have been here. He didn't even tell me he was going to do that and next thing I knew, dark and freezing he hauls the stove out to the garage by himself. He doesn't alot of patience, that's why I take care of the stove. And I will never tell him about this site because he might burn me in the stove if he knew I was telling his secrets.
Oh and yes, he did plug the vent.I better say in his defense, he is going out of town friday and worried about me and the kids not having the stove and also not knowing how soon we could get propane since we didn't know how long the stove would be out. Another reason why he just unhooked it and took it.

I mostly take care of our stove too. we take turns every other week cleaning it and I know I do a way better job than he does.
I would write the pellet company and tell them, maybe you could score a free ton of pellets or something....

I know there are a few women on here but doesn't seem like many. I use to be intimidated by this forum full of men but soon realized they are all nice, helpful and funny. Maybe even some crazy ones like my other half.

Another female here (Debbye - 1/2 of 'The Ds') and I'm the primary caregiver of our stove. We're pretty equal on pellet bag handling. Dave does the more mechanical end of things and the outside cleanout.

While that may very well be the case here, there have been many threads on this forum in the past where "foreign objects" have mysteriously found their way into the hopper. And just as a coincidence, most of those posters also had children.

Your hubby must really eat his Wheaties!! I was barely able to move my stove into my house 15 years ago when I was still reasonably young. For me to yank 350 lbs out of my fireplace and into my truck nowadays, just ain't gonna happen.

The pellet hopper has had a few "plastic soldiers" caused more problems than dying for their country.

I may need to check into deleting the history now that you mention it. Just kidding! It's nice to hear fropm some of the women on here.

Are you burning Somersets exclusively? Or another brand? I found some plastic in a certain brand last year (available in Ohio)
Yes we are, for the last 2 if not 3 seasons. Although we did have 2 tons of something else from a Rural King store last year but I can't remember what they were called, and they didn't burn as hot so sticking with Somersets and hoping for no more plastic. Got the Somersets from a local hardware store. What was the brand you found the plastic in if you don't mind me asking? Did you find it before it ran through the stove?

Possible kids dropped something in? or some inadvertently fell in during filling, cleaning, maintenance?
I really don't think so. There is nothing near our stove. The pellets are in the bag till I dump them in the hopper. Two of my kids are older and the younger one knows he is not allowed near it and has never touched it (and he is not young enough for shenanigans like that, haha) . There was 4 plastic pieces total. Three of them were 2 inches long. It was all from the same thing. Something you could tell that was broken but nothing recognizable at all. Just some gray plastic broken thing. I am a loyal Somerset customer so this incident doesn't scare me away from buying them. I feel bad for putting the name out there
the occasional "whoopsie" does happen, i had a small wire ring with 3 masterlock keys on it go through my feed system in 2005, came from a bag of pellets i know they werent mine as mine are all a set and keyed the same so one key fits all. anyway its somthing that is quite rare but it does happen.
