Polishing Soapstone

Anyone have any tips on cleaning up soapstone that has been ignored for a while?
I'm working on a Hearthstone II and the manual recommended 'Mop n Glow' which is still available but the manual was written 15-20 years ago.

000 Steel wool... polishes up like a charm and will never hurt the stone.

0000 steel wool even gives it luster. Surprisingly easy to do. Dry wipe or vacuum the dust off.

sweet. just picked up some 0000 at the store on lunch. they only had that and 003.
