My Jotul F3CB is rear vented and exits out an uninsulated 2 story chase. It drafts fine, problem being that it often drafts too much. I still have fairly rapid flames even with the primary air as low as it will go. I'm considering installing a damper inside my stovepipe and use it to further restrict air flow once I have an established fire.

I guess I'm worried I will then have an over-complicated air management system then, possibly needing to endlessly adjust 2 different air controls depending on how each load is burning. Maybe not, just don't know anybody that has done this. Has anybody installed one and regretted it? I'd just go ahead and do it except I currently have a special double-wall adjustable stovepipe and do not want to experiment with it.

I had one on our F3CB with about 16 ft of pipe and used it with every burn to eek out another 30 minute of heat before reloading. But no worry, it's not endless adjustment. Summer happens eventually. :)
