After some convincing of the wife, I have received approval to purchase a 2nd woodstove to install in our living room fireplace. I am considering a used regency F2400, and was wondering if anyone happens to have any pics of this stove installed in a masonry fireplace just for some comparison. If anyone has it with the leg kit, I'd love to see some pics of that as well. Seems like mostly good reviews on this stove - any complaints that I haven't dug up in my searches? It looks like a solid, simple stove to me and I have found a couple used (<4 seasons) near by at reasonable prices. Thoughts? Pics?

That model is strictly a top vent flue. To the fireplace you really want something thats a rear vent. It makes the install easier.

Tall, fairly deep firebox. Will have to take measurements when I get home but don't anticipate a problem positioning stove with flue vent directly under existing damper for a straight shot with chimney pipe.

You want a freestanding stove to sit out onto the hearth to radiate the heat into the room. Thats why on insert models they use blower fans to push the heat out. The farther you stick that stove in the fireplace the less heat you will get out of it. Are you lining the chimney with stainless?

Yes I would be lining the chimney - currently 12"x12" clay. With a rear heat deflector and a tightly sealed damper plate around the pipe I think it would do the job even if not ideal. I have a jotul F600 going full time in the basement. The Jotul is backed up to aprox. 25' of 3'+ thick interior cement wall (guy who built the house put a bunker under the garage, not my doing) - between the jotul and that much warm masonry the house stays comfortable, could just use a little kicker for the living space upstairs on weekends etc. when we are around the house.

Besides, 1/7 of the price for stove and pipe vs. just the jotul rockland 550 stove I really want. If I could find a good deal on a used rockland or clydesdale or comprable insert I'd be swayed, but I have had no luck. We just don't have the funding for the ideal setup upstairs this year.

Edit - and for what it's worth, the fireplace actually throws pretty good heat - one of the better non-rumsford fireplaces I've experienced.

Eh the more I think about it - you're right. Why spend the little extra cash I have on something I'm going to want to replace with a more efficient heater as soon as I get the chance. Back to the search.
