I intend to burn 24/7 during the burning season.
Wood will be mixture of Maple species and Oak (will try to set Oak aside as I come across it)
I intend to keep the house in the low 70s, maybe mid?
Keep in mind I'm a newb and I'm sure I'll screw up quite a bit while learning.


Winner = closest cordage # (to the nearest 1/4 cord) w/out going over.

What's the prize if u guess how much wood I go through including the shoulder seasons? Well your pic...either:

"a nice sample of wood pieces from my lovely wood pile"

or

"gently used, broken axe handle"

So, get 4 or 5, then do it again.
I like to have more than I think I'll need because Mother nature can be a biatch, and totally uncaring of your needs.
 
If we have to guess by 1/4 cords, there aren't many viable choices. Many contestants, you're going to have so many ties you aren't going to have any firewood left for the following season. So, to be kind, I won't participate. :)

I didn't burn that much but I did burn more than I thought I would about 3.5 cord. Only reason I say 5 is cause your way up north and all I know about CT is its a good chance itll be cold and snowy better to have extra than not enough.
 
I burnt just about 4 cords heating 1000 sq ft burning 24/7 since sept 2012 up until a few days ago in my little stove. I work from home so it is a true 24/7 burn cycle, my first "full" burning season mostly 10 mth css ash and 2 yr css black walnut we were given.

My guess, being CT is a bit north of me, you are new at burning, you will quickly get addicted to the warmth of wood heat instead of whatever your back up may be, cold wife syndrome, etc., etc., my guess is 4.75 cords.

Get choppin' my friend, as we never thought we'd need 4 cords of wood either , now, we know! ;)
