Feeling the Heat

Some times I notice the stove is not reaching temps by the time is usually takes, and I've taken to checking the primary air ports, and more often then not a split has shifted over blocking the holes. Does anyone do anything to prevent this from happening. Perhaps a mod. I wondered if a 3" pipe was cut in half down the length, with air holes drilled, running in my case N/S, to the back of the stove might prevent it from being blocked, and allow the air to channel to the back too?

I doubt very many stoves would have this problem. We've certainly never ran into it and we've had several different stoves.
