Fuel costs in MA, statewide averages according to https://www.mass.gov/info-details/massachusetts-household-heating-costs

Heating oil $3.10 gal
Propane $3.17 gal
NG $2.03 per therm
Electricity $.35 kWh

The state calculated winter heating rates. This is a statewide average (YMMV)

NG $883
Electric Baseboard $898 (which is BS)
Heating oil $1103
Propane $1412
Electric Heat pump (They indicate that users of heat pumps will save $540 this year. They don't say what those savings are based on)

I looked at 2 CT supplier's and one was $1.89 per gallon and the other has a sliding scale based on quantity purchased.

I think I paid about $1.90 a gallon but that was back in the summer. I'm fairly certain that it will be higher now but don't know how much. Just below Louisville, Ky.

I am locked in at 1.67/gal on propane till spring, unless the going price is lower, then I get that price. Going to need a fill soon as I know the tank is down to 30% or less ( 500 gal.) this a prepaid deal.

Not if you have natural gas in your area.
I was on natural gas when I lived 20miles away in town. Natural gas maybe cheaper per btu but with propane I pay by the gallon, no monthly fees to be connected to their lines, no tax if for home heating. That monthly connection fee goes up every year especially when they feel the need to "upgrade" their infrastructure. I did purchase my own used tanks so I am not locked into one supplier, but around here the suppliers are pretty competitive with each other.

It's $2.39 a gallon here in rural South Central Kentucky.

We pre bought some last summer for $1.72 a gallon and my shop tank was getting a little low so I called and it was $1.70 last week so I had the house 1000 gallon tank and my shop 500 gallon tank filled. We have had a fairly mild winter so far.

Cost me $170 to fill my 100 gal tank up to 80% that was down to 30%. Glad I only fill it once per year! My neighbor just dished out $1500 to fill his 500 gl tank! So around $3 per gal around here.

crazy expensive in eastern MA. over $4, with suppliers tank.

I posted $2.39 above at Tractor Supply, but I must be going dyslexic again.
???
In anticipation of this storm I checked at Holston Gas in town. They said $3.50 +/- a gallon and around $18 to fill a 20lbs tank.
So I'm thinking I meant $3.29 a gallon at Tractor Supply.
Anyway, I had my son take three of my 20lbs tanks to Tractor Supply. He didn't use my card and didn't get a receipt.?
He said it cost $54 for the three.
I use them for two 4k/9k btu Mr. Heater Buddy heaters during winter power outages in my 500² foot cabin.
We got 4-5 inches of snow and ice, with fingers cross, the power is good here.
