We went last night and bought ourselves a new PE Alderlea T5. The dealer will hold it for us until this summer so that I can get the old Dutchwest out and re-do the hearth and things like that. We are really looking forward to next winter (if you can believe it) to start using the new stove. He told us the price is going up 10% soon, so the $2600 stove will be more like $2900. Of course the 10% tax credit applies. All in all I am pretty happy with our purchase. It is a lot of money (to me at least) but I figure the pay back is 4-5 years if I keep cutting my own wood, which is my master plan. Of course you can't put a price on the pleasure of looking at the fire will give us, something we didn't really have with the Dutchwest, mostly an orange glow there. He had a fire in his store model PE Summit even though it was in the 50's here yesterday. It was just glowing coals but he showed me how just one log and how fast the fire starts back up. I had already been ready to buy the stove, the demonstration just completed the deal.

Good choice. As for paying for itself, I managed to save at least $1500 in electric the first year. So even buying some wood you are still way ahead. Pics upon install please.

Congrats, You are going to love the fireshow it's awesome! I was so nervous about purchasing mine but after the first few fires I am really starting to love it and I can't wait to really stretch it's legs next winter. I have been extremely impressed with the amount of heat it will put out. Did you get the blower? I am still waiting on my blower to come in but I can already tell that I'm going to want it come this winter.

Edit: It will pay for it's self for sure. To put it this way my propane costs would be $2500+ for a year and my wood costs last year were $0 (except for the gas for the saw splitter and tractor so maybe $30)

Thanks skin052 and certified106. I've never heated my house with anything but wood (except vacations of course) so I have no idea how much it would cost. I used to burn slabwood and 1 load would last me a season + a little and the last time it cost $400. I am now the proud owner of a used splitter and Husky chain saw so I will be supplying my own wood. I have about 6 acres of woods. I use propane for cooking and hot water and just filled my 500 gallon tank @1.83/gallon. Last time I filled was over a year ago and I think the delivery was 275 gallons. So I realize it would be pretty expensive. I decided to wait on the blower to see how it heats. I figure by the end of next heating season I'll have a good idea and could use the tax credit to get it.

Congratulation! You're going to love that stove. Keep a year or two ahead on the wood stash and you should be warm and cozy for many years to come.

Propane at $1.83? We haven't seen that price here for a long time. We are at over twice that price now.

GoGreen, i have been burning my T5 for a month and a half and i love it, easy to use and gives good heat for a long time. i keep a eye on stack temps and stove top temp. i put a blower on mine it is good insurance against temps getting to high. long story short i really like my stove

Pacific Energy makes a good stove. You'll be happy with it. The blower makes a great stove even better. Enjoy.

Congratulations on the new stove! Now you will have to wait for several months to enjoy it, but that won't be hard to do. Enjoy the summer and get it ready for fall....and your wood pile too.

I actually bought my 500 gallon propane tank many years ago and am able to avoid the low volume pricing (the reason I bought it). I have an annual contract with a local company that I call when I need it, or in this case to fill before my contract ends because I'm sure the price is going up.
