Question to any Quad 1200 FS owners out there-

Every 10 or 15 min or so the motor which feeds the pellets sounds like a can opener. Then hours will pass without any noise at all. The sound I can live with but more concerned that the motor is going.

I popped off the cover plate off the motor so I could see what was going on. When it happens, the motor spins backward for about a quarter to half turn, then runs normal with no noise at all. 15min later the same noise and backward turn. Does that sound familiar to anyone else? I completely cleaning the stove this weekend, vacuumed all the fines. Fired up the stove...same noise.

Any ideas?

Your auger motor capacitor appears to be going south. Not to worry though. It's a common occurrence and easily and cheaply fixed.

I ordered and received the capacitor. I'm by no means up on my technical terms so bear with me...there are two white plugs on the part. My current one ha one white plug and the other end looks hardwired into the motor. Also the replacement has a red and white wire...mine has a a red, white and black wire. My stove was built in '08 maybe they changed the motor parts?

I've not added this capacitor to my stoves yet but plenty of people here have done so. Hopefully, one of those will come along soon. I'm told that you just separate your white plug and insert the new part in between the two halves of the original plug.
I hope someone can answer this one for BOTH of us.

The electrical schematic shows only two wires, one of which bypasses the original capacitor but I think that's inside the box.

If I understand you correctly...insert new plug in between the two half's. So I would still have the old capacitor and the new one hooked up?

Yes, from all the posts I've read, you just leave the old capacitor alone.

OK-
Same deal....no change. Every couple of minutes the auger still turns backwards. The weird thing though is after a few hours and the stove warms up, it does not run backwards!

I wish a 1200 owner would pop in here. If it were me, my next step would be to pull the auger assembly (which I've done on my stoves) and see if there is a build up on the auger tube that is restricting movement. If there's too much drag on the auger, it will reverse. Before you pull it, people caution to get a spare gasket. I got one but it came off without a problem so I have a spare gasket.
