First, allow me to say hello as a new patron of hearth.com. There is a lot of info in these forums and i am thankful to all of you who help others and build a great knowledge base while doing so.

I had my new Mt Vernon E2 insert installed a month ago. I'm still learning some of the quirks (wont restart after about 12 hours burn unless the burn pot was emptied of ash) but its been good so far.

A couple days ago something changed, the feed auger is making a loud buzz noise that is rather annoying and can be heard from other rooms. This only happens when the stove is cold and goes away after about 45 min of run time on low (a higher heat setting seems to make it go away faster). I did take the auger/feed assembly out last night and vacuumed out the area. I was hoping that there was something jamming the auger making the motor work harder than it should, but the area was as it should be, now just with no dust. I also tried to see if there was something vibrating, but was unable to locate it. Noise seems to be from the feed motor itself.

Anyone have any insight as to what causes this and what should do next? I am going to call the dealer - but to be honest, i am not sure how much i trust them as i think i knew more about the stove than the installers did.

Here is a the noise (sorry about my kid making noise in the background. you may have to turn the volume up, audio seemed loud on the phone, but not so much on youtube. (i just listened again and the audio doesnt do justice to how loud this really is)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Don't know too much about the E-2 yet.Dealer I talked to said he's sold about 10 stoves so far,but didn't say about encountering any problems with it.I just replaced an auger motor on my AE 2days ago,but the stove is 7yrs old.

I would call dealer and have them replace it. It shouldn't make noise like that. The early AE's had an issue of making noise on low settings. It was due to electrical issues of running that low. kap

I have an E2 and it is quiet as can be--agree on calling the dealer.

Did you turn down the trim setting (feed) to see it helps with your ash build? I'm running -4 and I can go a day without pulling the lever (pellet quality makes a huge difference too)
