Well, I have a 2010 Quad Santa Fe. The problem I'm having is with the blower that blows the hot air into the room. It seems sometimes, it gives off this whining noise. A kind of ringing noise, and it comes and goes. I took off both sides and cleaned out the fins, and the area around it. Still does it at times. Any thoughts ?? Thank you ..

Could be vibration from the blower making the surrounding sheet metal buzz. Odds are the blower bearings are starting to get dry and whine. Drop of electric motor oil on both bearings may provide some relief but they are probably sealed ball bearings so hard for oil to get past seals. Worth a try though.

Yeah, I thought it might be bearings. But not sure if I can get oil into there or if I should. Its blowing fine, just can be noisy.

My convection blower started a whine / vibration a couple seasons back - thought it was my motor on the way out as well but ended up replacing the worn silicone grommet / washers, where the motor mounts to the sheet metal shroud, that act as vibration dampeners . I also had a cracked impeller fin blade, where the blade meets the edge of impeller fan, that was throwing it off balance, which I 'splinted' back together with a metal bread bag twist tie, and it's still quietly running 2 years later.

You can take the convection blower out of your stove and run it on a 110v power source by cannibalizing an old lamp or 2 prong extension cord and crimping some spade connectors on to the test cord wires. Be careful ! 110 v can certainly bite 'ya if you forget to unplug the test cord before you pull a connector off the motor !

Once it's out of the stove it's much easier to work on it - you can try adding some light oil to the shaft and bearing ports, or tweak the impeller blades, or tighten the motor mount nut / bolt tension to see if any of those fix the whine. If you do all that stuff and it still has a whine, then likely your bearings are failing, as others have mentioned.

I believe you can get the bearings replaced pretty inexpensively, if the blower can hang in there until this burn season is over - but who knows when that might be given this year of 'the winter that won't end' !

Good luck, and post back on what happens.

Yeah, thank you for your response. I'm probably not going to do all that as i'm not talented as such things. I repair computers, not many moving parts ..lol. Well, if it gets worse I'll have to call my stove guy ...I was just wondering what it could be.

The fan is not that hard to get out. You can do it. Should be taken out and cleaned at the end of each season along with the comb. blower anyway. kap

I usually take off the sides, and take a brush to the fins. And then shop vac anything else out. But I will definately take a look at trying to remove it. In the end, if anything goes wrong with it further I will hire a tech.

Ya just got to get the angle of the dangle right, to pull it out, and reinstall. Remember to unplug stove first. kap

Do you do your own annual cleaning? If yes, you should be able to replace the fan yourself. If no, have the person doing the cleaning do it when they are there. It will save an extra trip charge. Just make sure to let them know in advance, so they can bring one along and do it all at once.

I had tried replacing the bearings in mine this year, and the new bearings were actually louder than the old bearings. Ended up replacing entire convection fan.
