Quad Thermostat

I have been following any thermostat posts with interest. I want to add one to my Mt. Vernon, non AE, and I am open to thermostat recomendations. Looks like the Ritetemp 6022 would work just fine. I got this brand/model number from another thread here. Not looking to spend a lot of coin if its not needed or beneficial.

I have a good friend that has given me a Magicstat from Honeywell that doesn't look to me to be suitable. It says it will not work on a millivolt gas unit and all the hookup diagrams show a transformer being used. Didn't look for the swing feature as I kind of determined it wouldn't work for my stove. The model # is CT 2800. He bought it in 2002 so its a few years old but still working.

On these stoves where does the 24 volts come from that I've read these stoves need or run on? Does the stove produce the 24 volts or does it come from the stat? I'm guessing it is coming from the stove.

I will await your help before doing anything. And as usual thanks for any help.

Any millivolt thermostat will work and can be had for fairly inexpensive depending on the bells and whistles. You won't need to run power to the thermostat. You should already have a thermostat hooked up though.

Lux makes some nice ones with several features ( swing set and programming ) last one I bought was like 40 at HD

I have a Quad Castile insert and I'm using a Lux DMH110a thermostat. It is a non programmable digital t-stat with a nice big easy to read display. It's easily found on Amazon. The "a" version allows for programming the swing in a range from 1 to 9. "9" seems to be about +/- 1.5 deg F. It also has temp correction if you want to sync the temp with other thermostat(s) in the house.

There's an old school "off-auto-on" slider right on the front - no trap doors to open. So it's a dead simple operation to shut the stove "off" for cleaning or leave "on" running continuously for those really cold nights.

I was using a much fancier programmable Lux, but since I was constantly overriding the program and adjusting the temp manually I find the simple and easy to read DMH100a to be much more suitable.

What ever you get, look at the manuals to make sure it has swing settings. Some do and some don't. On Home Depot, I couldn't find a single Honeywell that had swing adjustment. Could be wrong but it would be the first time this year!

Most Honeywell stats do not have a "swing" setting adjustment. They do have a max cycles per hour that would be sufficient to keep from short cycling your stove. I set mine to a max of 2 cycles per hour. Works just as well as a swing setting.

What always turned me off with the 'max cycles per hour' was that, considering that we are dealing with SPACE HEATERS, on very cold nights, it's very possible that the room temp will drop well below what you want before the stove is allowed to turn back on. With max cycles per hour, temperature has absolutely no bearing on when the stove turns on. That, to me, is unacceptable when there are so many other thermostats that have swing settings. Honeywells just are not conducive to pellet stove operation IMHO, of course.

Yes, I do have a thermostat hooked up but hate the 10 hour cycle that it has. It came with the stove and shuts itself off every 10 hours. I have to turn it off and back on to make the stove run 24/7 and that ends up being a PIA especially if you forget before going to bed.

Thanks for the input. I will pick one up and be done with the 10 hour cycle. I don't know if Quad put that inplace for cleaning or what?
