Recently bought a house with a Quadra Fire 1200 for supplemental heat. It would only respond to the thermostat if I manually moved it up or down. The local tech said the thermostat was not sensitive enough, so I did the adjustment he recommended and it would turn on when the temperature dropped below the setting. However, when the temperature exceeded the setting, it did not turn off. He recommended a new thermostat. Installed new thermo and am still having the problem. Comes on fine, but has to be manually turned off by moving thermostat setting to a few degrees below requested turnoff setting. Put another thermometer in the room and the temperature is exceeding turnoff setting. Any other ideas?

your thermo stat could need to go as high as 5 deg. higher then what it is set at

What thermostat?

If you turn the thermostat down does it shut down?

If you don't have a thermostat you can put a jumper on the connections on the rear until you get 1.

Seems like you have a thermostat problems. Buy a nice digital thermostat that will work with pellet stoves like a Lux.

check the connection on the stove also maybe try with some different wire

If it works when it done by changing the setting manually why would different wire make a difference? The quad stat that comes with the stove is junk.

Where mine is set it come on at 68 and off at 72. I am still using the junk thermostat that came with my new stove, I like it, reliable.

because a bad wire connection or a broken wire could be causing it to not work right. why would two t-stats do the same exact thing? tells me something beside the t-stat may be the problem

Does the red call light stay on until you MANUALLY turn the thermostat way down or does it go off when you would expect it to a couple of degrees below set point? Also, on a manual thermostat, the 'anticipator' should be turned to the lowest setting number according to my manual.
