The stove randomly doesn’t light never has a missed ignition code and always starts on the second attempt but when it does this it dumps the hot ash on top of the unburnt pellets from the first attempt causing smoke as they smolder in the pan

We had the same problem with ours. I discovered that if I cleaned all the clinker out of the pot, it would start much better.

Helpful tip, I replaced our igniter with the lower power igniter that's solely designed for wood pellets. It made the lighting process much easier and simpler. For whatever reason, the higher power igniter designed for corn, or sunflower seeds, or cherry pits, did not work as well on pellets. I kept the high power igniter as a spare.

James, I'm sure you checked your pot. But, the clinker would build up on the back edge. Also, the quality of the pellets would also determine how quickly it lit off. Sometimes, I would throw in a handful of hardwood pellets just to make it start easier.
